The rock salt deposit from Slănic Prahova was exploited starting in the 17th century up to +193m elevation, through the Old Mines, the Victoria Mine and the Cantacuzino Mine. In order to continue the mining activity at a production capacity of over 200 thousand tonnes per year, mining began under a 40 m-thick crown pillar, through horizons XIV and XV. The mining method used is with small rooms and square pillars, and the mining technology is by mechanized cutting with roadheader. The stability analysis of underground excavations and resistance structures (pillars and ceilings) was carried out by numerical modeling using the finite element method.
