This paper concludes the research studies [1-11] on the effect of magnetic storms on the electrical transmission system. A brief overview of the physical nature of geomagnetism, space weather, and ways to monitor it is given. Furthermore, the mechanism of the solar wind on the magnetosphere and subsequently on the electrical transmission system is recalled. The focus of this paper is a rational view of the implementation of power transformer protection of the transmission system. It is shown that the introduction of protective devices is not only a technical matter, but their deployment must be decided on the basis of economic, social, and political considerations.
