<abstract xml:lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>After reviewing some of the most important features of Hungarian rural development, the paper attempts to explore participation and roles of non-profit organisations in this field, through the lenses of the LEADER+ Programme. As a study area, one of the seven development regions of Hungary, the Southern Transdanubian Region was selected for the analysis. On the basis of the results and the reviewed literature, the author gets to the conclusion that rural non-profit organisations have an important role to play in animating and mobilizing rural population</p></abstract>
