<abstract xml:lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">A 23 factorial experimental design has been used to quantitatively study individual and interaction effects of the nature of binder (N), binder concentration (<italic>c</italic>) and relative density of tablet (<italic>d</italic>) on the disintegration time (<italic>DT</italic>) and dissolution times, <italic>t</italic>1, <italic>t</italic>50 and <italic>t</italic>90, of paracetamol tablet formulations. The factorial design was also used to study the quantitative effects of pregelatinization of starch binders on these parameters, <italic>i.e.</italic>, N, <italic>c</italic> and <italic>d.</italic> In general, the most common ranking of the individual effects on <italic>DT</italic>, <italic>t</italic>1, <italic>t</italic>50 and <italic>t</italic>90 for native/native, pregelatinized/pregelatinized and native/pregelatinized starch binder formulations was <italic>c</italic> > <italic>d</italic> > N. For interaction effects, the most common ranking was N-<italic>c</italic> > <italic>c-d</italic> > N-<italic>d</italic> for all formulations. The results generally showed that <italic>c</italic> can considerably affect <italic>DT, t</italic>1, <italic>t</italic>50 and <italic>t</italic>90 of the tablets.</abstract>
