<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p> A 22-year-old woman with a 3-year history of discoid lupus erythematosus presented with two circumscribed patches of non-scarring alopecia, clinically simulating alopecia areata. Histopathological analysis of scalp lesions revealed discoid lupus erythematosus. Based on the clinical history, physical examination, and histological and immunological findings, we distinguished our case from a true combination of alopecia areata and typical chronic discoid lupus erythematosus.</p></abstract>
