<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

This current study investigated the effect of probiotics and prebiotics on the control of <italic>Salmonella</italic> spp. isolated from chicken. One hundred and eleven bacterial isolates were recovered from different chicken farms, and nine <italic>Salmonella</italic> isolates were detected with 8%. The serogroup analysis of nine <italic>Salmonella</italic> isolates showed three different groups identified as (4) <italic>S. enteritidis</italic>, (3) <italic>S. typhimurium</italic>, and (2) un-typed group. The positive-identified <italic>Salmonella</italic> was using PCR and genus-specific primer OMPCF (outer membrane protein reverse) with a target size of 204 bp. The results of <italic>Salmonella enteritidis</italic> with target size are also 304 bp and target 401 bp for <italic>Salmonella typhimurium</italic>. In addition, one hundred chicks were grouped into five groups (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) containing 20 broiler chicks. The broilers of groups 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were orally inoculated with a dose of 1×108 CFU nalidixic acid-resistant <italic>Salmonella enteritidis.</italic> Experimental groups were as follows: Group 1: negative control, Group 2: positive control (infected chickens), Group 3: infected chickens and treated with <italic>B. subtilis</italic> probiotic, Group 4: infected chickens and treated with levoxyl prebiotic, Group 5: infected chickens and treated with panflor antibiotic. Results showed significantly increased survival percentage against those challenged with a virulent strain of nalidixic acid probiotics and prebiotics. The oral application significantly improved the survival percentage against challenges with a virulent strain of nalidixic acid-resistant <italic>Salmonella</italic> spp. The best result of <italic>B. subtilis</italic> was 1×108 which reduced the growth of the microorganism under study (<italic>S. typhimurium – S. enteritidis</italic>).
