The Journal of Veterinary Research is an international open access peer-reviewed periodical that accepts for publication original and review articles on all aspects of veterinary medicine, placing the main emphases on infectious diseases of domestic and wild animals (including zoonoses), and food safety aspect of public health protection, and veterinary clinical sciences.
The approaches and techniques used in the research published in the journal are expected to encompass many disciplines, including microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, morphology, genetics and pathogenesis.
The journal welcomes articles of basic research as well as clinical studies of novel diagnostic tools, vaccines and antimicrobial therapies. Studies of antimicrobial resistance may also be accepted, provided that the results represent a substantial advance in knowledge. The journal will also publish articles on molecular aspects of the control and prevention of animal infectious diseases and food safety.
Articles dealing primarily with immunology, epidemiology, molecular biology and microbial or antiviral agents are appriopriate if they demonstrate a clear contribution of knowledge on the mechanism, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of animal diseases. The journal does not publish papers focusing solely on diagnostic techniques because the content should devote attention to the microorganism and not to a particular technique. Reports only of microbial sequences, metagenomics, transcriptomics or proteomics will not be considered unless they serve the widening of our understanding of microbial diseases.
Case reports and short communications are not published. Papers of geographically limited interest, which repeat what had been established in research conducted elsewhere are unsuitable because the journal has a global readership, and in article selection the editors should anticipate potential interest to many readers.
