<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be defined as the application of science and engineering with the intent of intelligent machine composition. It involves using tool based on intelligent behavior of humans in solving complex issues, designed in a way to make computers execute tasks that were earlier thought of human intelligence involvement. In comparison to other computational automations, AI facilitates and enables time reduction based on personnel needs and most importantly, the operational expenses.Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of great interest and significance in petroleum exploration and production. Over the years, it has made an impact in the industry, and the application has continued to grow within the oil and gas industry. The application in E &amp; P industry has more than 16 years of history with first application dated 1989, for well log interpretation; drill bit diagnosis using neural networks and intelligent reservoir simulator interface. It has been propounded in solving many problems in the oil and gas industry which includes, seismic pattern recognition, reservoir characterisation, permeability and porosity prediction, prediction of PVT properties, drill bits diagnosis, estimating pressure drop in pipes and wells, optimization of well production, well performance, portfolio management and general decision making operations and many more.This paper reviews and analyzes the successful application of artificial intelligence techniques as related to one of the major aspects of the oil and gas industry, drilling capturing the level of application and trend in the industry. A summary of various papers and reports associated with artificial intelligence applications and it limitations will be highlighted. This analysis is expected to contribute to further development of this technique and also determine the neglected areas in the field.</abstract>

Application Of Artificial Intelligence Methods In Drilling System Design And Operations: A Review Of The State Of The Art

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>The adaptive educational systems within e-learning platforms are built in response to the fact that the learning process is different for each and every learner. In order to provide adaptive e-learning services and study materials that are tailor-made for adaptive learning, this type of educational approach seeks to combine the ability to comprehend and detect a person’s specific needs in the context of learning with the expertise required to use appropriate learning pedagogy and enhance the learning process. Thus, it is critical to create accurate student profiles and models based upon analysis of their affective states, knowledge level, and their individual personality traits and skills. The acquired data can then be efficiently used and exploited to develop an adaptive learning environment. Once acquired, these learner models can be used in two ways. The first is to inform the pedagogy proposed by the experts and designers of the adaptive educational system. The second is to give the system dynamic self-learning capabilities from the behaviors exhibited by the teachers and students to create the appropriate pedagogy and automatically adjust the e-learning environments to suit the pedagogies. In this respect, artificial intelligence techniques may be useful for several reasons, including their ability to develop and imitate human reasoning and decision-making processes (learning-teaching model) and minimize the sources of uncertainty to achieve an effective learning-teaching context. These learning capabilities ensure both learner and system improvement over the lifelong learning mechanism. In this paper, we present a survey of raised and related topics to the field of artificial intelligence techniques employed for adaptive educational systems within e-learning, their advantages and disadvantages, and a discussion of the importance of using those techniques to achieve more intelligent and adaptive e-learning environments.</abstract>

A Survey of Artificial Intelligence Techniques Employed for Adaptive Educational Systems within E-Learning Platforms

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Artificial Potential Filed (APF) is the most well-known method that is used in mobile robot path planning, however, the shortcoming is that the local minima. To overcome this issue, we present a deadlock free APF based path planning algorithm for mobile robot navigation. The Proposed-APF (P-APF) algorithm searches the goal point in unknown 2D environments. This method is capable of escaping from deadlock and non-reachability problems of mobile robot navigation. In this method, the effective front-face obstacle information associated with the velocity direction is used to modify the Traditional APF (T-APF) algorithm. This modification solves the deadlock problem that the T-APF algorithm often converges to local minima. The proposed algorithm is explained in details and to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the simulation experiments were carried out in the MATLAB environment. Furthermore, the numerical analysis of the proposed approach is given to prove a deadlock free motion of the mobile robot.</abstract>

An Artificial Potential Field Based Mobile Robot Navigation Method To Prevent From Deadlock

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Music has the ability to evoke different emotions in people, which is reflected in their physiological signals. Advances in affective computing have introduced computational methods to analyse these signals and understand the relationship between music and emotion in greater detail. We analyse Electrodermal Activity (EDA), Blood Volume Pulse (BVP), Skin Temperature (ST) and Pupil Dilation (PD) collected from 24 participants while they listen to 12 pieces from 3 different genres of music. A set of 34 features were extracted from each signal and 6 different feature selection methods were applied to identify useful features. Empirical analysis shows that a neural network (NN) with a set of features extracted from the physiological signals can achieve 99.2% accuracy in differentiating among the 3 music genres. The model also reaches 98.5% accuracy in classification based on participants’ subjective rating of emotion. The paper also identifies some useful features to improve accuracy of the classification models. Furthermore, we introduce a new technique called ’Gingerbread Animation’ to visualise the physiological signals we record as a video, and to make these signals more comprehensible to the human eye, and also appropriate for computer vision techniques such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Our results overall provide a strong motivation to investigate the relationship between physiological signals and music, which can lead to improvements in music therapy for mental health care and musicogenic epilepsy reduction (our long term goal).</abstract>

Towards Effective Music Therapy for Mental Health Care Using Machine Learning Tools: Human Affective Reasoning and Music Genres

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> Learning vector quantization (LVQ) is one of the most powerful approaches for prototype based classification of vector data, intuitively introduced by Kohonen. The prototype adaptation scheme relies on its attraction and repulsion during the learning providing an easy geometric interpretability of the learning as well as of the classification decision scheme. Although deep learning architectures and support vector classifiers frequently achieve comparable or even better results, LVQ models are smart alternatives with low complexity and computational costs making them attractive for many industrial applications like intelligent sensor systems or advanced driver assistance systems.Nowadays, the mathematical theory developed for LVQ delivers sufficient justification of the algorithm making it an appealing alternative to other approaches like support vector machines and deep learning techniques.This review article reports current developments and extensions of LVQ starting from the generalized LVQ (GLVQ), which is known as the most powerful cost function based realization of the original LVQ. The cost function minimized in GLVQ is an soft-approximation of the standard classification error allowing gradient descent learning techniques. The GLVQ variants considered in this contribution, cover many aspects like bordersensitive learning, application of non-Euclidean metrics like kernel distances or divergences, relevance learning as well as optimization of advanced statistical classification quality measures beyond the accuracy including sensitivity and specificity or area under the ROC-curve.According to these topics, the paper highlights the basic motivation for these variants and extensions together with the mathematical prerequisites and treatments for integration into the standard GLVQ scheme and compares them to other machine learning approaches. For detailed description and mathematical theory behind all, the reader is referred to the respective original articles.Thus, the intention of the paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of the stateof- the-art serving as a starting point to search for an appropriate LVQ variant in case of a given specific classification problem as well as a reference to recently developed variants and improvements of the basic GLVQ scheme.</abstract>

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> This paper reports on an ongoing project between members of the computer science and special education departments of Bradley University and Murray State University, detailing the robotic platforms developed and investigated as a potential tool to improve social interactions among individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Development of a fourth generation robotic agent is described, which uses economically available robotic platforms (Lego NXT) as Socially Assistive Robotics (SAR), combined with direct instruction pedagogy and social scripts to support an alternative educational approach to teaching social behavior. Specifically, in this fourth generation, changes to the physical design of the robots were made to improve the maintainability, reliability, maneuverability, and aesthetics of the robots. The software architecture was designed for modularity, configurability, and reusability of the software.</abstract>

Accessible Robots for Improving Social Skills of Individuals with Autism

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>
The National Synchrotron Radiation Center SOLARIS, ranked among the top infrastructures of that type worldwide, is the only one located in Central-Eastern Europe, in Poland. The SOLARIS Center, with six fully operational beamlines, serves as a hub for research across a diverse range of disciplines. This cutting-edge facility fosters innovation in fields like biology, chemistry, and physics as well as material engineering, nanotechnology, medicine, and pharmacology. With its advanced infrastructure and multidisciplinary approach, the SOLARIS Center enables discoveries and pushes the boundaries of knowledge. The most important aspect of such enormous research as well as industry infrastructure is to provide stable working conditions for the users and the conducted projects. Due to its unique properties, problem complexities, and challenges that require advanced approaches, the problem of anomaly detection and automatic analysis of signals for the beam stability assessment is still a huge challenge that has not been fully developed. To increase the effectiveness of centers with advanced research infrastructure we focus on the automatic analysis of transverse beam profiles generated by the Pinhole diagnostic beam-line. Pinhole beamlines are typically installed in the middle and high-energy synchrotrons to thoroughly analyze emitted X-rays and therefore assess electron beam quality. To address the problem we take advantage of AI solutions including up-to-date pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) models among others EfficientNetB0-B4-B6, InceptionV3 and DenseNet121. In this research, we propose the benchmark for Pinhole image classification including data preprocessing, model implementation, training process, hyperparameter selection as well as testing phase. Created from scratch database contains over one million transverse beam profile images. The proposed solution, based on the InceptionV3 architecture, classifies pinhole beamline images with 94.1% accuracy and 96.6% precision which is a state-of-the-art result in this research area. Finally, we employed interpretability algorithms to perform an analysis of the models and achieved results.

Automatic Analysis and Anomaly Detection System of Transverse Electron Beam Profile Based on Advanced and Interpretable Deep Learning Architectures

This research focuses on the development of an explainable artificial intelligence (Explainable AI or XAI) system aimed at the analysis of medical data. Medical imaging and related datasets present inherent complexities due to their high-dimensional nature and the intricate biological patterns they represent. These complexities necessitate sophisticated computational models to decode and interpret, often leading to the employment of deep neural networks. However, while these models have achieved remarkable accuracy, their ”black-box” nature raises legitimate concerns regarding their interpretability and reliability in the clinical context.
To address this challenge, we can consider the following approaches: traditional statistical methods, a singular complex neural network, or an ensemble of simpler neural networks. Traditional statistical methods, though transparent, often lack the nuanced sensitivity required for the intricate patterns within medical images. On the other hand, a singular complex neural network, while powerful, can sometimes be too generalized, making specific interpretations challenging. Hence, our proposed strategy employs a hybrid system, combining multiple neural networks with distinct architectures, each tailored to address specific facets of the medical data interpretation challenges.
The key components of this proposed technology include a module for anomaly detection within medical images, a module for categorizing detected anomalies into specific medical conditions and a module for generating user-friendly, clinically-relevant interpretations.

A Novel Explainable AI Model for Medical Data Analysis

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>
Recommender systems (RSs) often focus on learning users’ long-term preferences, while the sequential pattern of behavior is ignored. On the other hand, sequential RSs try to predict the next action by exploring relations between items in a user’s last interactions but do not consider the general preference. Recently, the performance of RSs has increased by unifying these two types of paradigms. However, existing methods still have two limitations. First, the user’s behavior uncertainty impedes precise learning of preferences. Second, being unable to understand the semantics of items makes the effect of the same item considered in the same way. These limitations jointly prevent RS from learning multifaceted preferences to capture the actual intentions of users. Existing methods have not properly addressed these problems since they ignore context-aware interactions between the user and item in terms of the links between the user and item attributes and sequential user actions over time. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel model, called the Dynamic Intention-Aware Recommendation with attention-based context-aware item attributes modeling (DIARec), which is capable of determining users’ preferences based on their goal intention, taking into account the influence of various item features on user decision-making in their current context. Specifically, to model users’ dynamic intentions, we introduce a dynamic intent-aware module to represent the hierarchical relations between items and their attributes in a given session. Experiments on benchmark datasets indicate that the proposed model DIARec outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Diarec: Dynamic Intention-Aware Recommendation with Attention-Based Context-Aware Item Attributes Modeling

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>
Our previous experiments demonstrated that subsets of collections of (short) documents (with several hundred entries) share a common, normalized in some way, eigenvalue spectrum of combinatorial Laplacian. Based on this insight, we propose a method of incremental spectral clustering. The method consists of the following steps: (1) split the data into manageable subsets, (2) cluster each of the subsets, (3) merge clusters from different subsets based on the eigenvalue spectrum similarity to form clusters of the entire set. This method can be especially useful for clustering methods of complexity strongly increasing with the size of the data sample, like in case of typical spectral clustering. Experiments were performed showing that in fact the clustering and merging of subsets yield clusters close to clustering of the entire dataset. Our approach differs from other research streams in that we rely on the entire set (spectrum) of eigenvalues, whereas the other researchers concentrate on few eigenvectors related to lowest eigenvalues. Such eigenvectors are considered in the literature as of low reliability.

Eigenvalue-Based Incremental Spectral Clustering

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>
Energy saving has always been a concern in production scheduling, especially in distributed hybrid flow shop scheduling problems. This study proposes a shuffled frog leaping algorithm with Q-learning (QSFLA) to solve distributed hybrid flow shop scheduling problems with energy-saving(DEHFSP) for minimizing the maximum completion time and total energy consumption simultaneously. The mathematical model is provided, and the lower bounds of two optimization objectives are given and proved. A Q-learning process is embedded in the memeplex search of QSFLA. The state of the population is calculated based on the lower bound. Sixteen search strategy combinations are designed according to the four kinds of global search and four kinds of neighborhood structure. One combination is selected to be used in the memeplex search according to the population state. An energy-saving operator is presented to reduce total energy consumption without increasing the processing time. One hundred forty instances with different scales are tested, and the computational results show that QSFLA is a very competitive algorithm for solving DEHFSP.

A Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm with Q-Learning for Distributed Hybrid Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Energy-Saving

<abstract>
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>
Accurate and efficient COVID-19 diagnosis is crucial in clinical settings. However, the limited availability of labeled data poses a challenge for traditional machine learning algorithms. To address this issue, we propose Turning Point (TP), a few-shot learning (FSL) approach that leverages high-level turning point mappings to build sophisticated representations across previously labeled data. Unlike existing FSL models, TP learns using quasi-configured topological spaces and efficiently combines the outputs of diverse TP learners. We evaluated TPFSL using three COVID-19 datasets and compared it with seven different benchmarks. Results show that TPFSL outperformed the top-performing benchmark models in both one-shot and five-shot tasks, with an average improvement of 4.50% and 4.43%, respectively. Additionally, TPFSL significantly outperformed the ProtoNet benchmark by 12.966% and 11.033% in one-shot and five-shot classification problems across all datasets. Ablation experiments were also conducted to analyze the impact of variables such as TP density, network topology, distance measure, and TP placement. Overall, TPFSL has the potential to improve the accuracy and speed of diagnoses for COVID-19 in clinical settings and can be a valuable tool for medical professionals.

A Few-Shot Learning Approach for Covid-19 Diagnosis Using Quasi-Configured Topological Spaces

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Deep Neural Networks (DNN) are nothing but neural networks with many hidden layers. DNNs are becoming popular in automatic speech recognition tasks which combines a good acoustic with a language model. Standard feedforward neural networks cannot handle speech data well since they do not have a way to feed information from a later layer back to an earlier layer. Thus, Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) have been introduced to take temporal dependencies into account. However, the shortcoming of RNNs is that long-term dependencies due to the vanishing/exploding gradient problem cannot be handled. Therefore, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks were introduced, which are a special case of RNNs, that takes long-term dependencies in a speech in addition to short-term dependencies into account. Similarily, GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) networks are an improvement of LSTM networks also taking long-term dependencies into consideration. Thus, in this paper, we evaluate RNN, LSTM, and GRU to compare their performances on a reduced TED-LIUM speech data set. The results show that LSTM achieves the best word error rates, however, the GRU optimization is faster while achieving word error rates close to LSTM.</abstract>

Performance Evaluation of Deep Neural Networks Applied to Speech Recognition: RNN, LSTM and GRU

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>The convergence and divergence are two common phenomena in swarm intelligence. To obtain good search results, the algorithm should have a balance on convergence and divergence. The premature convergence happens partially due to the solutions getting clustered together, and not diverging again. The brain storm optimization (BSO), which is a young and promising algorithm in swarm intelligence, is based on the collective behavior of human being, that is, the brainstorming process. The convergence strategy is utilized in BSO algorithm to exploit search areas may contain good solutions. The new solutions are generated by divergence strategy to explore new search areas. Premature convergence also happens in the BSO algorithm. The solutions get clustered after a few iterations, which indicate that the population diversity decreases quickly during the search. A definition of population diversity in BSO algorithm is introduced in this paper to measure the change of solutions’ distribution. The algorithm's exploration and exploitation ability can be measured based on the change of population diversity. Different kinds of partial reinitialization strategies are utilized to improve the population diversity in BSO algorithm. The experimental results show that the performance of the BSO is improved by part of solutions re-initialization strategies.</abstract>

Population Diversity Maintenance In Brain Storm Optimization Algorithm

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> Feature selection is the main step in classification systems, a procedure that selects a subset from original features. Feature selection is one of major challenges in text categorization. The high dimensionality of feature space increases the complexity of text categorization process, because it plays a key role in this process. This paper presents a novel feature selection method based on particle swarm optimization to improve the performance of text categorization. Particle swarm optimization inspired by social behavior of fish schooling or bird flocking. The complexity of the proposed method is very low due to application of a simple classifier. The performance of the proposed method is compared with performance of other methods on the Reuters-21578 data set. Experimental results display the superiority of the proposed method.</abstract>
