New Ranking Functions for Interval-Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets and Their Application to Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Problem

Data publikacji: 30 Mar 2021
Zakres stron: 3 - 18

Abstrakt

Abstract

Many authors agree that the Interval-Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set (IVIFS) theory generates as realistic as possible evaluation of real-life problems. One of the real-life problems where IVIFSs are often preferred is the Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) problem. For this problem, the ranking of values obtained by fuzzing the opinions corresponding to alternatives is an important step, as a failure in ranking may lead to the selection of the wrong alternative. Therefore, the method used for ranking must have high performance. In this article, a new score function SKE and a new accuracy function HKE are developed to overcome the disadvantages of existing ranking functions for IVIFSs. Then, two illustrative examples of MCDM problems are presented to show the application of the proposed functions and to evaluate their effectiveness. Results show that the functions proposed have high performance and they are the eligibility for the MCDM problem.

The Probabilistic Risk Measure VaR as Constraint in Portfolio Optimization Problem

Data publikacji: 30 Mar 2021
Zakres stron: 19 - 31

Abstrakt

Abstract

The paper realizes inclusion of probabilistic measure for risk, VaR (Value at Risk), into a portfolio optimization problem. The formal analysis of the portfolio problem illustrates the evolution of the portfolio theory in sequentially inclusion of different market characteristics into the problem. They make modifications and complications of the portfolio problem by adding various constraints to consider requirements for taxes, boundaries for assets, cardinality constraints, and allocation of the investment resources. All these characteristics and parameters of the investment participate in the portfolio problem by analytical algebraic relations. The VaR definition of the portfolio risk is formalized in a probabilistic manner. The paper applies approximation of such probabilistic constraint in algebraic form. Geometrical interpretation is given for explaining the influence of the VaR constraint to the portfolio solution. Numerical simulation with data of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange illustrates the influence of the VaR constraint into the portfolio optimization problem.

Hierarchical Hexagon: A New Fault-Tolerant Interconnection Network for Parallel Systems

Data publikacji: 30 Mar 2021
Zakres stron: 32 - 49

Abstrakt

Abstract

A new interconnection network topology called Hierarchical Hexagon HH(n) is proposed for massively parallel systems. The new network uses a hexagon as the primary building block and grows hierarchically. Our proposed network is shown to be superior to the star based and the hypercube networks, with respect to node degree, diameter, network cost, and fault tolerance. We thoroughly analyze different topological parameters of the proposed topology including fault tolerance routing and embedding Hamiltonian cycle.

Virtual Machine Placement Using Energy Efficient Particle Swarm Optimization in Cloud Datacenter

Data publikacji: 30 Mar 2021

Abstrakt

Abstract

Efficient resource allocation through Virtual machine placement in a cloud datacenter is an ever-growing demand. Different Virtual Machine optimization techniques are constructed for different optimization problems. Particle Swam Optimization (PSO) Algorithm is one of the optimization techniques to solve the multidimensional virtual machine placement problem. In the algorithm being proposed we use the combination of Modified First Fit Decreasing Algorithm (MFFD) with Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm, used to solve the best Virtual Machine packing in active Physical Machines to reduce energy consumption; we first screen all Physical Machines for possible accommodation in each Physical Machine and then the Modified Particle Swam Optimization (MPSO) Algorithm is used to get the best fit solution.. In our paper, we discuss how to improve the efficiency of Particle Swarm Intelligence by adapting the efficient mechanism being proposed. The obtained result shows that the proposed algorithm provides an optimized solution compared to the existing algorithms.

A Study on Human Learning Ability during Classification of Motion and Colour Visual Cues and Their Combination

Data publikacji: 30 Mar 2021

Abstrakt

Abstract

The paper presents a study on the human learning process during the classification of stimuli, defined by motion and color visual cues and their combination. Because the classification dimension and the features that define each category are uncertain, we model the learning curves using Bayesian inference and more precisely the Normalized Conjunctive Consensus rule, and also on the base of the more efficient probabilistic Proportional Conflict Redistribution rule No 5 (pPCR5) defined within Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT) of plausible and paradoxical reasoning. Our goal is to study how these rules succeed to model consistently both: human individual and group behaviour during the learning of the associations between the stimuli and the responses in categorization tasks varying by the amount of relevant stimulus information. The effect of age on this process is also evaluated.

Relating Student Engagement Indicators to Academic Performance Using Multiple Correspondence Analysis

Data publikacji: 30 Mar 2021
Zakres stron: 87 - 102

Abstrakt

Abstract

Student engagement is an essential device for deepening learning, achieving learning outcomes, developing competencies, and improving academic performance in education settings. It is widely receiving increased attention among various scholars and higher education leaders. However, there are increasing concerns about the academic performance of students in higher education settings. The application of statistical data analytics for mining student engagement datasets is a candidate strategy for discovering essential indicators associated with academic performance. However, widely used data analytic methods like principal component analysis are ineffective when most of the indicators captured are categorical, making them inappropriate for establishing the weighty academic performance indicators. This study’s objective was to investigate the application of multiple correspondence analysis to establish weighty student engagement indicators of academic performance. This study’s findings have indicated that higher-order learning and student-staff interaction are weighty indicators that relate student engagement to academic performance.

An Effective e-Commerce Recommender System Based on Trust and Semantic Information

Abstract

Electronic commerce has been growing gradually over the last decade as a new driver of the retail industry. In fact, the growth of e-Commerce has caused a significant rise in the number of choices of products and services offered on the Internet. This is where recommender systems come into play by providing meaningful recommendations to consumers based on their needs and interests effectively. However, recommender systems are still vulnerable to the scenarios of sparse rating data and cold start users and items. To develop an effective e-Commerce recommender system that addresses these limitations, we propose a Trust-Semantic enhanced Multi-Criteria CF (TSeMCCF) approach that exploits the trust relations and multi-criteria ratings of users, and the semantic relations of items within the CF framework to achieve effective results when sufficient rating data are not available. The experimental results have shown that the proposed approach outperforms other benchmark recommendation approaches with regard to recommendation accuracy and coverage.

Abstract

Design principles of a novel Multifunctional Operation Station (MOS) using Augmented Reality (AR) technology (MOSAR) are proposed in this paper. AR-based design allows more ergonomic remote instrument control in real time in contrast to classical instrument-centered interfaces. Another advantage is its hierarchical software structure including multiple programming interpreters. The MOSAR approach is illustrated with a remote surgical operating station that controls intelligent surgical instruments. Contracting VoIP Packet Payload Down to Zero

Data publikacji: 30 Mar 2021
Zakres stron: 137 - 150

Abstrakt

Abstract

The inefficient use of the IP network bandwidth is a fundamental issue that restricts the exponential spreading of Voice over IP (VoIP). The primary reason for this is the big header size of the VoIP packet. In this paper, we propose a method, called Short Voice Frame (SVF), that addresses the big header size of the VoIP packet. The main idea of the SVF method is to make effective use of the VoIP packet header fields that are unneeded to the VoIP technology. In particular, these fields will be used for temporarily buffering the voice frame (VoIP packet payload) data. This will make the VoIP packet payload short or even zero in some cases. The performance evaluation of the proposed SVF method showed that the use of the IP network bandwidth has improved by up to 28.3% when using the G.723.1 codec.
