Technological Forecasting of Deformations in Flat Parts

Abstract

The deformation of a part occurring in the process of grinding directly influences its exploitation and quality parameters. The instability of shape and size, which occurs due to an imbalance of residual stress, can be the one of the major causes of deformation of a part. The decrease in stress slows down the deformation process. Considering the regularities of heat source intensity dependence on the grinding modes, it can be asserted that with increasing grinding depth and grinding wheel hardness, the value increases and it decreases with a growth in a speed of the part and the use of cooling. The higher the heat removal is and the better lubricant properties of the liquid are, the more significant the decrease in is. Changing these values allows regulation of the residual stresses. As a result of the research on determination of deformations, it is recommended to reduce thermal deformations by considering the geometric size of a plate to be machined, linear expansion coefficient of plate material and an allowance for nonflatness from thermal deformations. The value of nonflatness from thermal deformations is directly proportional to linear expansion coefficient of plate material and its square overall dimensions. At the same time, the value of nonflatness is inversely proportional to the plate thickness.

Conditions of Steel Industry in Poland After Restructuring – the Analysis by Using C-D Model

Abstrakt

Abstract

The primary objective of the article is to identify conditions of restructuring from the point of view of Polish steel industry by using Cobb and Douglas model (C-D). Both in European economies and Polish economy, the steel industry is included to important branch of industry. The steel sector has been a permanent component of the Polish economy. Restructuring of metallurgy in Poland has been realized since 1990s. Finally after several years of changes (in the first decade of the 21st century) steel plants adjusted theirs operations to market economy conditions. Nowadays we think that the steel sector has competitive position on the domestic and European markets but if it is truth. On the base of C-D model, the author of the article presents results of the statistical analysis and answer the question about influence property and employment on production in steel industry. Obtained relations between particular components of production function show the condition of steel industry in Poland.

Modelling and Simulation Testing of Main Bearing Loads and Strains in Crankshafts Caused by Deviations in the Position of the Shaft Journal and Bearing Axes

Abstrakt

Abstract

This article presents the results of a simulation, testing the variation of main bearing loads and strains in crankshafts caused by geometrical deviations of the bearing system to justify the necessity and purposefulness of measurements of both the shape and axes position deviations of crankshaft journals. Measurements of these deviations at the existing level of applied measuring techniques are significantly limited. The research also accentuates the practical implementation of a measuring system equipped with the so-called flexible support system for the measured object, developed at the Maritime University of Szczecin. This system makes it possible to eliminate elastic deformations of the crankshaft due to its own weight, whereby the measurements of geometrical deformations of the crankshafts can be carried out with appropriate accuracy in conditions corresponding to the non-reference measurements when determining the object measured in counterpoints. The obtained results have fully confirmed the purposefulness of the conducted research and the validity of the theses.

Straight and Bent Bars Buckling Considered as the Axial Displacement of One Bar End

Abstract

A new approach has been taken to the problem of straight and bent bar buckling, where bar buckling is considered as a function of axial displacement of one end. It was assumed that the length of a bar being buckled at any instant of buckling is the same as that of a straight bar, regardless of the size of axial displacement of one end of the bar. Based on energy equations, a formula was derived for the value of axial displacement of one bar end or buckling amplitude in the middle of bar length as a function of compressive force. The established relationships were confirmed by simulation tests using the finite element software Midas NFX and by experimental tests.

Analysis of Gas and Dust Emissions From the Mining and Quarrying Sector in the European Union Countries

Abstrakt

Abstract

Despite the ongoing changes in the energy and economic structure of the European Union countries, mineral and energy resources such as hard coal, brown coal, natural gas, copper ores, zinc ores and many other minerals continue to be extracted. Each year, the mining and extraction sector emits thousands of tons of harmful substances into the atmosphere, in the form of greenhouse and other air-polluting gases, as well as harmful dusts. These substances include, amongst others, carbon dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, as well as PM2.5 and PM10. The European Union climate policy clearly recommends that the exploitation of mineral resources be carried out in full respect of the principles of their rational, economical and environmentally neutral acquisition, which is confirmed by the promoted strategy of sustainable development economy. Therefore, this means the necessity to undertake actions aimed at limiting the emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants into the atmosphere. To assess the actions taken by the European Union countries to date with respect to limiting those emissions, a comparative analysis was carried out for the particular countries. This analysis encompassed the emission of harmful substances from the mining and quarrying sector by the European Union countries in the years 2008 and 2017. The purpose of the analysis was to show the diversity of those countries in terms of the emission of harmful gases and dusts, as well as to divide them into similar groups. Such a division paves the way for developing a common climate policy and exchanging experiences between the countries from the particular groups. The European Union countries were divided into similar groups using the k-means grouping method. Comparison was also made for the emissions of the substances under analysis for the particular countries over the research years. The results obtained unequivocally demonstrate that this emission has been limited in the European Union, but there are countries where the emission of certain substances has increased.

Problem of Interruptions in Reinforcement Works and Longwall Exploitation

Abstrakt

Abstract

This paper presents the problem of technical means failure, used both in longwall reinforcement and in the mining process. Longwall reinforcement – a concept related to launching a longwall mining excavation – is one of the most important elements in the process of hard coal seams exploitation. It consists in introducing all necessary machinery and equipment to the future longwall in order to enable the effective mining process. The efficiency of a longwall excavation as well as works related to the reinforcement of longwalls depends directly on properly selected machines and equipment of the longwall complex. In order to ensure greater effectiveness and efficiency, it is necessary to find the causes of the most frequent failures in these processes and effectively counteract them. These actions result in increased production availability of machines and equipment involved in the mining process. The increase of production availability is significantly influenced by the technical condition of technical means used both in longwall reinforcement and in the mining process, and their proper selection. This will ensure a largely failure-free and uninterrupted progress of works.

Quantitative Indicators of the Instantaneous Speed of a Ship’s Main Engine and its Usability in Assessing the Quality of the Combustion Process

Abstrakt

Abstract

A graph of the changes in an engine’s operating speed can be used to assess the quality of the combustion in its cylinders. In this paper, the authors carried out tests on a Buckau-Wolf R8VD-136 ship engine, which was directly driving the propeller. This engine is owned by the Laboratory of Marine Engine Rooms at the Maritime University of Szczecin. For standard rotational speeds ranging from 200 to 280 rpm, with increments of 20 rpm, the authors measured the changes in the instantaneous speed for the engine’s normal operating conditions (reference graphs) as well as with one of the cylinders being out of operation. A no-combustion situation was successively introduced into each cylinder for each preset rotational speed. The obtained graphs of the instantaneous speed were then used to determine certain quantitative indicators, which the authors believe can provide information about the technical condition of the engine. The analysis concerned the averaged graphs of the speed under the conditions set for five consecutive engine operating cycles. The indicators that were calculated included the maximum difference in the speed over the engine’s full operating cycle, the uniformity of the engine speed and the differential speed area factor, the latter a term that has been proposed by the authors. The values of the individual indicators that were obtained from the reference graphs and the graphs with no combustion in one of the cylinders were compared. All indicators are sensitive to cylinder misfire. Conclusions were then drawn on the usefulness of these indicators in assessing the condition of an engine.

Analysis of the Time of Crew Evacuation from the Hazardous Area of Mining Exploitation Using Numerical Simulation

Abstrakt

Abstract

Hard coal mines are vulnerable to a series of hazards that affect the safety and effectiveness of mining production. One of such hazards is the risk of underground fires. As the exogenous underground fires appear suddenly and have a highly dynamic course, it is very often necessary to quickly evacuate the crew from the danger area. The time needed to evacuate the crew from the danger area is most commonly determined by means of analytical methods, which provide a very general calculation. Therefore, it becomes necessary to also make use of other methods and tools for determining this time. Undoubtedly, such characteristics are offered by modern calculation methods based on the artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm and characterised by high accuracy. The paper presents a sample application of such a method for evacuating a 20-member crew from the heading under threat. In order to determine the evacuation time for those individuals, a calculation model was built for the total length of the escape routes equal to 900 m. The results revealed that the total evacuation time for workers moving with the speed corresponding to the movement speed in a heading filled with smoke (with considerably reduced visibility) will amount to approx. 21 minutes. The results obtained may constitute an essential source of information for service teams responsible for ensuring the operational safety in mine headings. At the same time, the model developed allows for broader application to the estimation of crew evacuation times from danger areas.

Practical Approach to Optimal Cooling System Design for a Production Line Consisting of Plastic Injection Moulding Machines in Polish Specific Climat Conditions

Abstract

The paper presents and describes cooling systems mainly used in industrial plants specialized in production based on injection moulding machines. Each solution is rated taking into account investment costs, technical complexity, exploitation costs and system flexibility in general. With regard to dynamically changing law regulations linked to refrigeration installations, mainly F-Gases Act, during optimal system selection new restrictions were respected. This approach ensures long-term exploitation without additional complications. The paper contains characteristics of cooled facility, i.e. production plastic plant using injection moulding machines, presents specifics for this type of application where two extremely different cooling processes are placed in parallel. One task is heat collection from injection moulds to ensure short production time and produced details recurrence, the second is keeping hydraulic oil temperature between temperature limits – this process ensures proper oil viscosity and prevents its premature wear.

Study of Physical and Mechanical Properties of Steel During Grinding and Sharpening

Abstrakt

Abstract

A direct influence on the physical and mechanical state of the surface layer of wedge-shaped plates made of 8KHF steel is exerted by heat generation processes developing in the zone of a high-speed thermal process. Research on the influence of the parameters of a high-speed thermal process on the change in the structure of 8KHF steel (GOST 5950-2000 Russia, standard PN/H 85023 brand NCV1 Poland) was fulfilled. It allowed studying the nature of the change in the microstructure depending on short-term heating to various temperatures and rapid cooling. As a result, critical points of the beginning and the end of structural transformations during heating were determined. Research on thermal processes in a high-speed thermal process made it possible to establish regularities of influence of cutting speed, source speed, contact area, coolant properties and heat transfer coefficient on the temperature and rate of thermal processes in surface layers, as well as their impact on the depth of heating to a certain temperature. The study also allowed us to show the relationship between temperature and rates of heating and cooling. The solution to this problem, taking into account the action of the cooling fluid, gives the opportunity to bring the picture of the development of thermal processes closer to real conditions and makes it possible to reasonably predict the structural state of the surface layer of wedge-shaped parts made of 8KHF steel under various conditions of a high-speed thermal process.

Use of Selected Adaptive Models to Forecast Accidents During the Repair, Maintenance, Installation of Machines and Equipment

Abstract

In the article the possibility of using selected adaptive models to forecast accidents at work during repairing, maintaining and installing machines, was presented. On the basis of statistical data on persons injured in accidents at work (2009-2018), the process of their forecasting was carried out (for 2019 and the years 2019-2021) and the errors of expired forecasts were determined. Prediction of empirical data allowed for the assessment of accident rates among persons injured in total accidents and allowed for the assessment of the state of occupational safety in the area with was analyzed. The presented models can be used to assess accidents in other sectors of the economy and be a tool used to assess the state of occupational safety in an enterprise.

Machines for Mechanical Mining of Hardly Workable and Abrasive Rocks

Abstract

Mechanical mining is a widely used method for separating material from mined rock in the mining branch, tunnelling, road and construction industries. Depending on the mechanical properties of rocks, most often defined by uniaxial compressive strength, various machines and tools are applied. Apart from rock strength, the efficiency of the mining process is determined by abrasiveness, which affects the rate of tool abrasive wear. Currently, disc mining by static pressure or rear undercutting are the most developed methods. Undercutting can be supported by high pressure water jet or disk oscillation. Mining with drills also utilizes static pressure. In addition to discs, conical picks are applied; they are mounted on cutterheads. In underground mining and tunnelling, there is an increasing need to cut abrasive rocks with a strength of more than 120 MPa in places where explosive materials cannot be used. In the article, the recently applied and developed methods of cutting abrasive rocks characterized by high strength, such as copper, gold, tungsten or platinum ores and diamond deposits, have been presented. Next, the latest machines and machine systems used for their mining are reviewed. Leaders in the mining machinery industry, such as Joy (Komatsu), Epiroc (Atlas Copco), Sandvik and Aker Wirth are developing proprietary designs of cutting machines based on both well-known and completely new ideas.

Work Safety Improvement Within Autonomous Maintenance

Abstract

Employers are under a legal obligation to provide employees with safe and hygienic conditions of work. These conditions are created by environmental factors that depend on the specifics of the enterprise, production technology and used machinery and equipment. A large number of the risks to which employees are exposed is associated with the use of machinery, equipment and working tools (as confirmed by Statistics Poland). Numerous manufacturing companies increasingly use the practice of involving operators, independently from the maintenance department, in the upkeep and maintenance of machinery and equipment in order to increase efficiency. These activities are undertaken within the scope of Autonomous Maintenance (AM), which is one of the essential elements underpinning the TPM system. The activities performed by operators within AM, such as daily inspections, lubrication or simple repairs, reduce the number of machinery breakdowns. Nonetheless, they could be a potential source of risk for employees. Companies applying the traditional division of tasks entrust the performance of such activities to qualified maintenance staff, so the proper identification of risks that takes into account the specificity of the activities performed by operators and the provision of training in the safe organization of work represent a significant feature of safety improvement. Enterprises may adopt multiple solutions in this regard, including the tools and techniques of the concept of Lean Manufacturing.

Digital Prototyping on the Example of Selected Self-Propelled Mining Machines

Abstract

The changing requirements and needs of users as well as the demand for new mining machinery solutions pose a challenge for designers. Time spent on the design phase of a new machine is often reduced to a minimum. Small lot production and sometimes single piece production entails the necessity to frequently design and manufacture commercial copies, which are also prototypes. The only effective solution is to apply available CAD and CAE programs enabling digital prototyping. Their use allows for making a complete machine in a virtual environment. The virtual model is subjected to tests aimed at eliminating collisions, optimizing the construction as well as obtaining a lot of information concerning the load, kinematics, dynamics, stability and power demand. Digital prototyping enables avoiding the majority of errors whose detection and elimination in a real object is time-consuming and expensive. The article presents examples of the application of broadly understood computer aided designing of self-propelled mining machines, produced by Mine Master. The effects of applying the modelling, FEM strength analysis, static and dynamic simulations, modelling of drive systems have been demonstrated. The methods used to validate computer models and verify the parameters of finished machines have also been discussed.

Optimisation of Logistics Processes Using Simulation Tools

Abstract

Optimization of production logistics processes through the use of simulation tools brings a lot of benefits to a production company, and thus significantly reduces production costs. Increasing competition resulting from the use of production automation to increase productivity has increased the complexity of production systems that can only be analysed by simulation. Production logistics performs management functions such as planning, motivating, organising and controlling. It does not deal with technological processes, but the organisation of physical delivery and displacement of components and information in the system. An important feature of production logistics is combining supply logistics with distribution logistics. If the production logistics is properly organised, it provides access to all materials and components of a given product during the implementation of a specific order. Simulation tools ensure continuity and rhythm of production after it is started, as well as convenient conditions for using modern internal transport. The article presents the Flexsim simulation tool, which was used to improve production logistics in the studied enterprise. The programme also contributed as an opportunity to improve and shorten production cycles, maintain optimal inventories, select packaging and logistics units, as well as the ability to use automatic identification of raw materials, materials or semi-finished products.

Providing the Ability of Working Remotely on Local Company Server via VPN

Abstract

Increasingly popular remote work requires the use of modern network technologies to provide employees in a remote location with access to the company’s IT resources. The answer to the needs of remote access to files and server services can be the use of clouds and VPS. However, this involves high costs and requires entrusting the enterprise’s data to the providers of these services. Both for reasons of data security and too high costs, enterprises sometimes cannot use these technologies. The solution to the problem may be the use of encrypted VPN tunneling, which allows the device to be connected at a remote location to the company’s local network and use its resources as if it was connected to the local network with physical transmission medium.

Influence of the Volumetric Expenditure of Air Supplied to the Longwall Through the “Y” Ventilation System on the Location of an Area at the Risk of an Endogenic Fire

Abstract

In the case of longwall ventilation, in the underground hard coal mines, a phenomenon related to the migration of a certain amount of the air stream supplied to the longwall deep into goaf zones occurs. One of the wall ventilation systems, in which this phenomenon is quite intense, is the so called “Y” ventilation system. This migration is immensely unfavorable because it can lead to the self-heating process of coal left in a goaf and, consequently, to an endogenous fire. Such a fire is a great threat to both the safety and continuity of operation processes. For this reason, various activities are undertaken to prevent such a fire from occurring in goaf zones. One solution is a method presented in this article. It aims at determining an area in goaf zones, where an endogenous fire may occur. The study focused on the longwall ventilated with the Y system. This area was determined based on two criteria, namely air velocity and oxygen content. The study was carried out for various volumes of air supplied to the longwall. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to develop research methodology and determine the location of an area at the risk of an endogenous fire. The location of this area was determined for three different volume expenditures of air supplied to the longwall ventilated with the Y system.

Regardless of unit production, mass production – an excellent production plan is always expected to combine the exact amount of materials at the right time with production cells and employees. An accurate production plan saves money by reducing production costs and time. It helps to achieve the goal and generate the best production plan. The article addresses the problems of material resource organization in industrial, mining and processing enterprises, affecting production efficiency. Particularly the problems of planning and preparation of unit, serial and mass production in relation to specific products. Abstract

The subject matter presented in the article touches the problem of incufficient efficiency of processes and systems in organisation. Achievement of adequate efficiency value is a guarantor of competitive advantage of enterprise. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly work on methods and techniques to improve efficiency, tailored to the needs of various organizations, which also includes service enterprises. Service enterprises include public transport companies. The purpose of the latter is to guarantee that the passenger will be transported from stop A to stop B within a certain time. Failure to achieve this goal incurs certain social costs. Therefore, the article focuses on measures and ways to improve efficiency, developed in Eastern Asian enterprises that have been successful as a result of their use. The first part of the article reviews the literature, including the methods used in this part of the world. The second part, however, concerns the possibility of using the BOST method in improving the efficiency of public transport enterprise processes in Poland.

Influence of the Permeability of the Longwall Goaf Zones on the Location of an Area With Explosive Methane Concentration Levels

Abstrakt

Abstract

One of the basic ventilation hazards and, at the same time most dangerous, in hard coal mines is the methane hazard. During the exploitation process using the longwall system with the breaking down of roof rocks, methane is released into mining excavations from both mined coal and the one left in goaves. Significant amounts of methane also flow from the underworked and overworked seams, through cracks and fissures formed in the rock mass. When accumulated at an explosive concentration level in goves and at an appropriate oxygen concentration level and the occurrence of a trigger (e.g. a spark or endogenous fire), methane may either explode or ignite. These are immensely dangerous phenomena. Therefore, the possibility of their occurrence should be limited. The article presents the results of the research aimed at determining the impact of the permeability of goaf zones on the distribution of methane and oxygen concentration levels in these goaves. The study was carried out for the longwall ventilated with the Y system. The model analysis was conducted, the results of which allowed the authors to determine these distributions. On their basis, both the location and size of the areas in which hazardous methane concentrations could occur were designated. The results are of great practical importance as they indicate areas in goaves where preventive measures should be implemented.

A Generation of Innovative Technical Ideas and Solutions as an Important Component of the KOMAG Strategy

Abstract

The article presents some strategic aspects of the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology in the field of creating innovative ideas and innovative technical solutions concerning machinery and devices for mining and preparation of minerals as regards their operational safety, productivity and reliability. Special attention is paid to a process of stimulating innovative ideas in a creative atmosphere, as KOMAG researchers and engineers are encouraged to be open-minded and to think in an unconventional way. Two examples of innovative technical solutions are described in detail, i.e. the water-and-air dust control system and the KOMTRACK haulage system for highly productive longwall systems of a new generation. The article contributes significantly to Innovation Engineering which is an important component of Production Engineering in the scope of generating and implementing innovative solutions. The authors presented an ecosystem of innovations, describing several methods of creating innovative ideas. The article concentrates on a role of Polish research institutes which play a key role in creating and implementing innovative solutions, bridging science and industry. Due to an analysis of different methods of generating innovative technical ideas and solutions, it can be concluded that an idea and a need of generating an innovative solution may appear in the research institute or at the industrial partner’s organization. In the case of the KOMAG multi-year experience and practice industrial partners include not only producers of mining machinery and equipment, but also representatives of mines of minerals. In general an innovative idea is generated in the result of an inspiration from the business environment and then it is transformed into an innovative product or service. The article contains the authors’ practical recommendations as regards a creation of innovative technical solutions. It is ended with a summary of general character and with some final conclusions.

Wear Resistance Improvement of Equipment for Production of Building Ceramics by Hardfacing with Flux-Coerd Electrodes based on Fe-Ti-B-C System

Abstract

In this work were analyzed factors that leads to wearing of equipment of production engineering, construction, oil and gas, woodworking, tillage industries. Was established that traditional hardfacing materials based on the Fe-Cr-C system are not effective for improvement of abrasion resistance of elements of equipment for production of ceramic building materials due to working conditions. The aim of this work was to increase a durability of that equipment by using of flux cored electrodes with reaction components that provide “in-situ” synthesis, which leads to fine-grained structure of refractory borides and carbides and their solid solutions with increased hardness. Powders of Ti, Mo, B4C and their combinations were used. Structure of the hardfacing coatings were investigated by method of metallography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Using of pure metal powders led to forming a fine-grained structure with refractory borides and carbides and their solid solutions. It was investigated that the offered material based on Fe-Ti-Mo-C-B system used for increasing the wear resistance of extruder-screw for production of ceramic building material can increase the TBO period in 2.2-2.4 times in comparison with serial hardfacing materials based on Fe-Cr-C system.

Use of Reverse Engineering and Additive Printing in the Reconstruction of Gears

Abstract

Despite the very rapid technological development, the general concept of mechanical devices has not changed. Still, the most common element of these devices are gears, whose range of use is very wide. There are both technological and historical considerations for the reconstruction of gears and other elements. In particular, this applies to spare parts for technical facilities that are not available on the market or service costs are too high. Contemporary reconstruction is called Reverse Engineering, which offers tools that allow transformation of an existing object through a virtual model into the final real product. Modern production engineering is based on innovative CAD – Computer Aided Designed design methods and computer-aided manufacturing technologies, CAM – Computer Aided Manufacturing. The rapid development of 3D CAD systems has led to the development of solutions to obtain the designed object, already at the development stage. Such a solution is the Rapid Prototyping method, designed for fast, precise and repeatable production of machine components. Widespread use and growing interest in the use of additive printing influenced the development of this technology. The purpose of the article is to present the practical application of the Reverse Engineering method and 3D printing in the reconstruction of gears. The object of research is the real gear, which has been reconstructed using Reverse Engineering and 3D printing. The article presents the basic assumptions of the methods used and the methodology for conducting reconstruction work. FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology was used for the research. The results obtained are a real example of the practical application of the presented methods. At the same time, they create great opportunities for their wider use.

Ensuring Equal Bandwidth for Remote Connections to the Local Company Server

Abstract

Creating the required IT infrastructure to enable the ability for comfortable remote working is not an easy task. Improper configuration can create the possibility of taking over the whole bandwidth of the link by one device. Increasing bandwidth introduces extra costs and does not completely eliminate the problem – it will be more difficult to take over the whole bandwidth, but it is still possible. The solution to the problem may be the use of clouds and VPS, but it is associated with high costs and the need to entrust company data to providers of these services. Due to security and too high costs, this may not be an optimal solution. An alternative solution may be to use QoS along with PCQ. This mechanism allows to ensure equal division of the bandwidth between the devices under its control. With an appropriate configuration, QoS can eliminate the problem of taking over the whole bandwidth and ensure equal access to resources.

Abstract

The article presents the issues covering the modern methods of securing data in both manufacturing processes and companies within the concept of Industry 4.0. In this approach, research problems arose how to implement the right method of secure data sending in sales, manufacturing and distribution processes. It is a very important issue for manufacturing companies as well as how the process of sending electronic data should be safely conducted. While current researches concentrated on the method of blockchain secured electronic documents, there is almost no research concentrating on blockchain integrator selection criteria. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a decision assistance model based on multiple criteria decision analysis technique. Also, mutual relationships between parameters for the assessment of integrators are established. In the article, a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) was used to assess these characteristics. The Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique was chosen for this assessment.

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of acoustic modelling of sport and hunting shooting ranges for the purposes of carrying out acoustic impact assessments on the environment. The fashion for recreational shooting and the dynamic development of shooting ranges resulted in conflict situations between the shooting range and the residents. Increasingly, the condition for allowing the shooting range to be used is to carry out an acoustic analysis to confirm the lack of noise nuisance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop guidelines for acoustic modelling of shooting ranges, taking into account their purpose and types of shooting axes. Each of the shooting axes is designed for a different type of shooting and thus has different acoustic characteristics. In the article, the author presents a method of modelling noise emissions from the shooting range on the example of one of the popular shooting competitions which is the hunting trap. First, acoustic measurements of the unit noise source related to the firing of shots by a firearms shooter were made. Then the directional characteristics of this source were determined, the shooting axis of the “hunting trap” type was modelled during a typical shooting competition and its directionality was determined. Then, on the example of a specific shooting range, the possibility of using the results to analyse the propagation of noise into the environment during typical shootings on the trap axis was presented.

Containerization of Server Services

Abstract

Businesses are increasingly confronted with server-related problems. More and more, businesses are enabling remote working and need to rely on network services. The provision of network services requires rebuilding the network infrastructure and the way employees are provided with data. Web applications and server services use common dependencies and require a specific network configuration. This often involves collisions between network ports and common dependencies’ configuration. This problem can be solved by separating the conflicting applications into different servers, but this involves the cost of maintaining several servers. Another solution may be to isolate applications with virtual machines, but this involves a significant overhead on server resources, as each virtual machine must be equipped with an operating system. An alternative to virtual machines can be application containerization, which is growing in popularity. Containerization also allows to isolate applications, but operates on the server’s native operating system. This means eliminating the overhead on server resources present in virtual machines. This article presents an example of web application containerization.

Analysis of Distortion Mechanisms Used in Rotary Steerable Systems

Abstrakt

Abstract

Drilling with a rotary steerable system, the mechanical drilling speed increases by two times compared to drilling with a screw bottom-hole motor, which provides significant savings drilling-time. The effective length of the horizontal elbow increases, which enables to increase the production rate more than twice. It is found that in comparison with the bottom hole motor, rotary steerable system provides drilling smoother barrel, which reduces the risk of accidents to come out. The dependence between the type of the bent housing and the most rational fields of its application is revealed, recommendations on the choice of the rotary steerable system for various issues of directional drilling are developed.

Manufacturing companies operate on data from production, operation and trade. The strategy of creating and collecting data at the centre of production processes has significantly improved in recent years. Manufacturers are now collecting and storing vast amounts of data from their manufacturing facilities, both online and offline, from multiple geographic locations and with a growing number of separate data repositories. The design of workplaces and products continues to migrate from paper to the computer, where analysis accuracy, visualization, and collaboration utilities allow designs to be realized much faster and better than ever before. As the pace of this development accelerates with the increased capabilities of the software design tools, less time is spent on physical prototyping, allowing for shortened time-to-market for new products. Ergonomists, who in the past used the physical prototypes to perform human factors analyses, are now challenged to move the analysis into the virtual domain using new tools and methods. Usability, maintainability, physical ergonomic assessments, psychological perception, and procedural training are some of the human factors issues that might benefit from analysis prior to the first physical incarnation of the design.

The Possibility of Modeling Parts in Production Technology

Abstract

The object of the research is a part “Flange half of differential case”, which has complex shape of a housing. The subjects of the research are the processes of selection of analogue material, workpiece production method, and justification of the structural and technological parameters of a part, taking into account 3D-modeling of the structure, deformations, displacements, stresses, and safety factor. The selection of analogue material is connected with suspension of production of open-hearth steel grade Mst.6 GOST 380-50. The objectives of the work include juxtaposition of computer models of deformations, displacements, stresses, safety factors of the part made of different analogue materials; comparison of models according workpiece production methods with consideration of material utilization ratio, structural and technological features of resulting workpieces. For modelling we have chosen the several types of materials. Research on modelling processes was fulfilled by means of software of Kompasv17, Solid Works, Solid works simulation. Volumetric models of parts and workpieces for all studied materials have been created taking into account the deformations, displacements, stresses, and safety factor. There results of modelling of “Flange half of differential case” allowed us to make recommendations for production conditions. These recommendations include the use of steel 45 GOST 1050-2013 as analogue material, hot forging of a workpiece on a horizontal forging machine, creating of design and technological documentation for the manufacture of the part.

Critical Incident Technique as an Instrument for Assessing the Service Quality in a Chosen E-Shop

Abstract

The development of e-commerce and communication technologies has allowed changes in the traditional trading system, currently customers can use both stationery shops and e-shops. People no longer need to leave their homes to go shopping, even everyday groceries. They can use the e-shop at any time of day or night, at home or at work. There are no queues, they can get to know other people’s opinions, compare products and services with each other. They can shop while sitting on the sofa in front of the TV and sipping tea. Shopping can be done in the e-shop up to thousands of kilometers away. Especially in the current Covid-19 pandemic, online shopping has become very popular. The aim of the paper was to assess the quality of services offered by the research e-shop. During the research the Critical Incident Technique (CIT) was used. A direct interview was conducted with the customers of the research e-shop who, after using its services, agreed to share their impressions and opinions. They were supposed to describe incidents or situations related to the research e-shop, which they have in their memory, and which caused special satisfaction or dissatisfaction. The analysis allowed to indicate that less than 50% of the incidents described by the customers were positive incidents that cause customers’ high satisfaction, which is not a good situation for the research e-shop. Improvement actions are needed.

The article presents the results of research analyzing the level of use of quality assurance instruments. The use of quality management instruments refers to the production of windows based on PVC profiles. Based on the results of surveys, which were additionally verified by an extended expert interview, an analysis was made of the level of use of quality assurance instruments at individual stages of the technological process. The main conclusion of the analyzes is that the most commonly used quality instruments are Pareto-Lorenz analysis, Ishikawa diagram, control cards and the FMEA method.

Abstract

Safety and quality management are very important elements of managing production and service processes. It is important not only to manage in itself, but above all to constantly improve processes and constantly strive for excellence. However, continuous improvement of the organization is one of the key principles of quality management, it states that improvement can be obtained from the analysis of existing processes or measurement results. In this paper the level of occupational health and safety in european enterprises providing transport and logistics services in terms of quality management principles. On the basis of the presented results it was found that in large enterprises safety management principles are respected, while in small and medium enterprises the level of safety does not look very promising. An interesting phenomenon was observed in the case of micro-enterprises (family businesses). Research shows that employees know and adhere to the safety principle, but they do not see too much change in improving the level of safety.

In the article, the author presents in an expanded approach the results of previously conducted research, described in his previous publications and aimed at understanding the needs and capabilities of Polish micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) in recognizing challenges and implementing practical solutions from the area fitted to of the Industry 4.0 paradigm. In addition to the detailed and based on selected examples discussion of the results of the first round of surveys conducted among the owners and management staff of this category of enterprises operating in the area of the Upper Silesian – Zagłębie Metropolis in the Upper Silesian Voivodship, the results obtained in the second round of research were also shown and compared with first-round results. The results obtained are the basis for the plan of further, extended research. The author presents the elements of such research plan in the last part of this article.

On the Influence of Parts’ Materials Properties on the Assembly Orientation

Abstract

The material of a part or component has a decisive impact on the complexity and laboriousness of assembly process. Thus, solid, fragile and flexible parts and components are all handled in a different way. The present paper classifies some of the most common types of materials parts are usually made of, while also analyzing their impact on the assembly process. In mechanical engineering, solid parts are most often used, given that these do not require special measures in known assembly orientation and handling techniques. However, such solid materials pose several challenges as well, and this mainly due to their several specific shapes, which means a specific problem in gripping and especially in their orientation during the assembly process. In this regard, the paper also addresses with one of the most important and assembly-troublesome properties of these solid parts, which the degree of symmetry. The degree of symmetry of solid parts has a direct impact on the complexity and laboriousness of their orientation in assembly. The last part of the paper focuses on the theoretical basis for the calculation of complexity and laboriousness in the assembly of parts.

Analysis of Methane Emissions From Air Shafts of the Jastrzębska Coal Mining Company in 2017-2019

Abstract

The paper presents formation of the amount of methane released from a coal deposit during coal mining. The total amount of released methane is composed of the amount separated directly into the ventilation air in mines (ventilation methane) and included in the demethanation system, isolated from the ventilation air. Methane from the demethanation system is only partially utilized. The unused part of methane is discharged into the atmosphere. The paper presents how the amount of methane released in individual mines of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa S.A. was shaped, with a division into methane released to the ventilation system and included in the demethanation system, taking into account the part used for economic purposes and the part discharged to atmosphere. The research material covers the years 2017-2019.

3D Object Digitization Devices in Manufacturing Engineering Applications and Services

Abstrakt

Abstract

The rapid development of CAD 3D systems has led to the development of solutions enabling the physical achievement of the designed object, already at the design stage. Such a solution is the rapid prototyping method, intended for fast, precise and repeatable production thanks to additive technology. The first basic step of this method is a 3D scan. It is a technique that analyzes a real object in order to collect data about its basic (geometric) and additional (e.g. color) features. The collected data is used to generate three-dimensional, virtual models. Scanning can be performed in various ways using different devices. The aim of the article is to review the available technologies for digitizing 3D objects and to compare them in the context of individual application areas. It presents selected tools and software that will economically and efficiently increase the range of applications of digitization methods in the production process and offering various services on the market.

The article presents the results of research on the use of measuring devices based on RFID tags and graphic tags to track the increase in production. The conducted research experiments were made in a real production company, which is characterized by an average degree of digitization of its business processes and significantly uses the human factor in production. The conducted research allowed us to show the usefulness of measurement methods in tracking business processes, and to analyze the method of obtaining production data to achieve the traceability of manufactured components. The study also presents selected examples of IT systems in solving traceability problems (traceability and traceability of production).

Investigation of the Physical, Mechanical and Aesthetic Characteristics of Terrazo Tiles Obtained from Different Rock Aggregates

Throughout history, people have covered the floors of the buildings with materials such as carpet, rock pieces, wood, mosaic, ceramic and tile according to the conditions of the day due to their desire to protect them from moisture, make them hygienic environment easy to clean and give an aesthetic appearance. The merging of mechanization with cement based materials with the industrial revolution in the 19th century has brought along the development of diversity and different production methods in these floor covering materials. One of these coating materials is terrazo tiles that form the subject of the current paper. Terrazo tiles are materials obtained by pressing the mortar obtained by mixing water, cement, marble powder and aggregate in certain proportions. Within the scope of this research, it was aimed to provide alternative raw materials to the tile body and to transform the rock pieces, which are found in waste form in natural stone workshops, into the economy. For this purpose, geomaterials collected from magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks cropped in the Kahramanmaraş-Antakya-Elazığ regions and natural stone workshops operating in Kahramanmaraş city, were classified according to their geological origins and aggregates of 4.75-12 mm were obtained with the help of jaw crushers and sieves. Tiles have been produced in accordance with the method of tile production from sized aggregates. The produced tiles were kept in the water pool for 28 days and surface controls were made. According to the physical and mechanical test results applied to the tile samples, water absorption by weight is 5.31-13.25%, bending strength 4.95-8.89 MPa, Böhme abrasion resistance 1.09-3.43 cm3/50cm2, mass loss after freeze-thaw is observed to be in the range of 0.97-1.59%. On the other hand, the surface roughness of the tiles prepared with coarse rock aggregates was found to be relatively lower than the tile samples obtained with fine grained rock aggregates. The obtained results indicate that the geomaterials subject to the research can be used as an alternative raw material source in tile production and these raw materials will provide new benefits to the construction field.

Evaluation of the Quality of Conical Picks and the Possibility of Predicting the Costs of Their Use

Abstract

Currently, the user’s choice of a conical pick involves specifying its geometric and material parameters, taking into account the place and conditions of its work. The selection is then made, usually on the basis of solely one criterion, which is the price. Thus, at the stage of both purchase and operation, the quality of picks and their suitability for a specific machine and the processed mineral are not assessed. Therefore, a method was developed to enable conducting tests that determine the geometric parameters of a pick, the types of materials of the pick body and WC insert as well as the pick wear rate (intensity) in a laboratory workstation. The wear rate (intensity) is described by the C2 index – the smaller is its value, the slower is the pick’s wear. The C2 index has been used to forecast the wear of picks and to determine their unit price and operating costs. This allows for precise determination of investment requirements and a proper selection of the pick.

The progress of digitization and the development of new technologies undoubtedly bring many benefits. However, they can also create or deepen problems related to the social exclusion of certain groups of people, such as the elderly, for whom modern technology is still largely unavailable, and even arouses a sense of uncertainty and fear (the so-called technophobia). The consequences of such a phenomenon become particularly evident in the situation of social isolation, whose unprecedented dimension is currently observed in the so-called COVID-19 pandemic era. In particular, the occurrence of the phenomenon of social exclusion combined with a pandemic situation has contributed to the development of the assumptions of the project entitled “Developing the cognitive capabilities of older people through information technology.” This project was developed by the INNOVATOR Student Science Club at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology, and its goal is to develop a tool to support the acquisition of competences by seniors in the field of technological content, operation of electronic devices and the implementation of daily and routine activities using the Internet, e.g. shopping via the Internet or using tele advice services. The proposed tool is also to support the stimulation of the development of cognitive abilities of seniors using e.g. logical games. In the course of project implementation, a survey will be conducted in selected Nursing Homes, Retirement Homes, online forums for the elderly and through direct contact, the results of which will allow to learn the needs and possibilities of developing the abilities of the examined people, and assess the effectiveness of the designed tool in the process of transferring content and shaping competences. An element encouraging seniors to participate in the planned research will be their active participation in lectures and/or talks, workshops and discussions. The assumed result of the project will be to reduce the negative effects of isolation of seniors, improve their communication with their loved ones and reduce the generation gap. A complementary research task will be to develop a way to assess project results in qualitative and, where possible, quantitative dimensions.

Extended interviews were conducted in Poland and the USA using a questionnaire as the research tool. The results of the research showed differences between the enterprises and universities cooperation in Poland and the USA.

Abstract

The objective of this article is to present the results of research concerning the assessment of the actually implemented Quality Policy in social and cultural area of selected industrial enterprises. In the first part of the article, the essence of the Quality Policy and its implicational meaning for the functioning of the enterprise in the scope of quality were described. What is more, the study also contains the problems associated with analyzing the quality policy. The main part of the article contains the results of research carried out in the years 2015-2019 among 166 industrial enterprises carrying out their activity in Poland. The objective of the research was the assessment of the actually implemented quality policy in the enterprises. The data was obtained on the basis of survey carried out among representatives of middle management in each enterprise. Statistical analysis of the results allowed to assess the quality policy in groups of enterprises depending on their size, management system and the so-called level of independence in management.

Abstract

The paper deals with application of soft-skills competence in practice comparing of education and employers requirements. In addition to what a graduate is to know in terms of the knowledge theoretically acquired, the labour market today defines quite clearly the specific requirements in terms of what a graduate should be able to do, provide for, organize, including the demands related to their competences. The purpose of the paper is to assess the ethical credibility of selected subjects in the field of soft skills based on the analysis and conclusions of research conducted in 2018-2019 at the Technical University in Zvolen. The method of questionnaire survey was chosen for the execution of the research. The paper presents the results of the selected area research of soft-skills, which showed the most significant differences – stress resistance. To evaluate the results was used the Mann-Whitney test of significance which is an especially appropriate test for two independent and randomly selected sets of sample observations. At the end of paper are proposed recommendations for improving teaching in accordance with the requirements of practice.

Improving the Management of Storage Stock in the Tire Industry Using the Example of a Selected Company

In a well-organized company, stock levels are precisely planned. In order to optimize inventory, various analyses of inventory usage are carried out in terms of them quantity and status. The work presents research on improving the method of managing inventory in the tire industry using the example of a selected company. The company operates warehouses in which tires for passenger cars and vans are stored. Products stored in warehouses ensure high standards. The company focuses on individuality and has a strong market position. The paper presents the results of the ABC and XYZ analysis that allow grouping tires by demand, value and number. The criteria for choosing the ABC/XYZ method are a simple way of use and low financial outlays, in contrast to such methods as MRP or just in time. Furthermore, calculations of such standards as rotation ratios for individual seasons and optimal inventory were carried out. The rotation indicator allows determine which goods are sold quickly and which goods are selling poorly, and therefore the costs associated with their storage are probably higher than from the sale of profits. As a result of the analysis, improvements were made to the inventory management system. The implementation of the proposed methods and tools for inventory management allowed the company to eliminate unnecessary inventories, reduce storage costs and minimize inventory control.

Analysis of the Features of a Degraded Land in Terms of Revitalization – Case Study on the Example of a Post-Smelter Area

Abstract

The process of transformation in the Polish economy, transforming it from a planned economy into a market economy, has resulted, among others, in the liquidation of many heavy industry plants in the Upper Silesian Industrial Region (GOP). GOP cities, which grew up on the basis of heavy industry, were spatially planned according to the needs of mining and metallurgical plants. Liquidation of the plants resulted in the creation of degraded, unused post-industrial areas, scattered over various city districts. Their location is often very attractive, but with many drawbacks, such as degradation, contamination by harmful substances or unclear legal status, potential investors are reluctant to take interest in them. Detailed documentation of the land’s characteristics, the effects of the activity previously carried out here, the community’s expectations regarding the use and development of such land, will make it easier for the investor to take a decision on the redevelopment of the area. The article is an example of a preliminary analysis of a selected post-industrial area, which helps to outline the direction of its revitalization.

Social Utopias and Engineering Design

Abstract

A paradox of our time is identified: on the one hand – the development of one global system (ecological, technological and social), on the other hand – the still increasing “balkanization” of science. The dynamics of this systems is a source of well-known numerous global problems. Its possibly effective solution needs adequate knowledge about the system. For this reason, counteraction to “balkanization” of science is of great practical importance. And this counteraction should comprise not only development of “transboundary” sciences (such as biochemistry or social psychology) but also establishing and developing links between very distant disciplines. This text is intended as a contribution to linking social and engineering sciences. The notion of design plays the central role in this text. Its meaning in the engineering sciences. The notion of utopia has been chosen as a partial counterpart to the term of engineering design. This notion was defined using a concept of possible world – taken from modal logic. It encompasses two ideas: this of design and that of prediction, It is claimed that we need many utopias and that their plurality is of fundamental importance for protecting us against the threats of utopianism. The paper suggests that social utopias can play a heuristic role in engineering design (particularly in the initial phase of defining technological problems), and – on the other hand – that the theory of engineering design can be supportive for, badly needed, development of methodology of utopias creation.

The change to be made in traditional marketing is the shift of interests from satisfying needs to meeting expectations. @Marketing may serve as a tool for that. The aim of this paper is to present a new concept for @marketing, based on innovative forms of product presentation. The paper focuses on the marketing content, without consideration of technical aspects. Research has been carried out in the field of customers’ expectations towards online presentations. In the new conditions, a product presentation should be expanded by innovative forms such as narration, photography and computer graphics. Therefore, there is a need to develop comprehensive projects for planning online presentations as soon as possible. It should be preceded by detailed analyses carried out by IT specialists and marketing experts.

Abstract

This article presents the most important aspects of the sustainable development policy and indicates the instruments that have an impact on its shaping. In addition, attention was drawn to the fact that issues related to sustainable development (mainly in the context of spatial planning and investment) and environmental protection are also discussed as leading topics in discussions on the quality of life in Europe. In the conclusions for the future, points were identified that prove to be the most important goals for the current and future development of Europe as a whole, namely: promoting sustainable spatial development; strengthening business location; infrastructure optimization; ensuring social stability in areas such as health, education and social policy; careful use of natural resources (promoting biodiversity and supporting material cycle optimization), i.e. helping to ensure that the natural foundations of life are available to the next generation as much as possible; continuation of advanced energy policy (reduction of CO2 emissions in line with target values); strengthening education (continuing to consolidate the education system, improving the conditions for employing teachers, as well as ensuring the financial stability of educational institutions); ensuring the safety of; effective positioning of regions (cooperation between regions that jointly implement key projects and take greater account of common interests at national level).

Moving to Smart Cities Through the Standard Indicators ISO 37120

Abstract

In this article the current and most important standards focusing on smart city sector and organizations issuing them were presented. The standard-setting family for smart cities consists of four basic standards: ISO 37101, ISO 37120, ISO 37122 and ISO 37123. The paper also presents the indicators on the basis of which a city can apply for a certificate of ISO 37120 standard and presents the possibilities of a register of different cities from all over the world in the Global Cities RegistryTM, developed by WCCD (World Council on City Data). Thanks to the data contained in the database, city authorities can answer the question: How prosperous is my city? and compare with other cities from around the world. As an example of the use of WCCD data, a comparison of 21 European cities in terms of the amount of renewable energy consumption in relation to the size of population living in the city has been presented.

Analysis of working conditions in terms of ergonomics is an increasingly popular topic among industrial enterprises. This is primarily due to the development of departments responsible for maintaining safe and healthy working conditions, but also awareness of the impact of working conditions on maintaining safety and maintaining the rhythm of work. Care for working conditions translates into the possibility of maintaining the level of activities performed, which indirectly affects the quality of final products. Conducting activities in the field of shaping ergonomic working conditions in the context of continuous improvement based on the Deming cycle and the principles of conceptual ergonomics seem to be a key approach to care for work safety. Treating this process as a continuous and looped process gives you the ability to react quickly and predict adverse effects. However, constant control, observation, and analysis of the possibilities of implementing improvement solutions is important. The purpose of the article is to compare ergonomic working conditions at selected work stations with the assumptions and plans developed before launching the assembly line. The research included a comparative analysis of results in the form of ergonomic score obtained from TiCon software, based on MTM, UAS, and EAWS methods. The research was carried out at the turn of 2016-2020 in an automotive company dealing in the production of passenger car drive system components.

Abstract

The article presents the relationships between ergonomics and the effectiveness of work processes. A new thematic framework has been developed to evaluate the engineering design of work processes in conjunction with the effectiveness and ergonomics of workplaces. The model presented in the paper takes into account ergonomic factors that have a direct impact on shaping working environment in which a person is located and improving their efficiency. The model was validated in real conditions in the production company. The subject of the research was the work process existing in the plant producing food paper packaging. The main method used to assess working conditions was observation and qualitative and quantitative assessment of operational activities based on video recording. Detailed human actions were analyzed in terms of ergonomic factors to prove the relationship between ergonomics and efficiency. In addition, new technical solutions have been proposed that improve working conditions and the efficiency of the entire work process.

As a result, via using extensive literature review, this study tries to answer the question of what are main risks involved in construction phase of OGPs and which methods are used for identifying them? The outcome of this research would likely be a valuable source for construction professionals to improve project performance while managing existing risks. It is also useful to avoid common problems that befall many project managers and will assist them to have a better understanding of risk management as part of a project plan.

The paper contains a comparative analysis of the competences needed to practice engineering in Poland and the United States (USA). Surveys of industries were conducted in Poland and the USA. Legal background of curricula was discussed. The surveys were done for the purpose of assessing the importance of competences as well as level of mastery those skills and attributes by engineering graduates. The results confirm differences in approach of entrepreneurs to graduates of engineering studies in Poland and the USA. In the USA entrepreneurs have higher expectations and the importance of individual competences is also different. The comparative analysis was done to identify the weaknesses in the engineering curricula and identifying the best practices.

Management Accounting Model for Small Industrial Enterprises

Abstract

The aim of the paper is a model of managerial accounting for small industrial enterprises, which is not theoretically developed in the literature and in most small enterprises, managerial accounting is not even practically applied. The questionnaire survey found information about the tasks, tools and methods that managerial accounting performs in medium-sized companies. The analysis of the use of managerial accounting is the practice of small industrial enterprises was carried out through guided personal interviews, while the evaluation specified the most problematic areas of its application in these enterprises. Based on the findings of the analysis following the information obtained on the tasks, methods and tools of management accounting in medium-sized enterprises, a model of management accounting for small industrial enterprises was proposed. It defined the tasks that managerial accounting should perform in small industrial enterprises and, among the existing methods and procedures traditionally used in managerial accounting, those that are practically applicable in the given enterprises were proposed. The main benefit of the paper is the management accounting model for small industrial enterprises. The main emphasis is placed on the transparency of costs and the interconnection of information on individual elements of the accounting information system with minimal capital expenditures.

A socially responsible company should take responsibility for its impact but also take care of the impact throughout its supply chain. Its perspective must be wider than only its own practices. Supplier development process can be used to spread socially and environmentally responsible practices across the supply chain. The aim of the paper is to identify and classify the socially responsible activities practised by the car producers and dedicated to their suppliers. In the paper sustainability reports of seven automakers were analysed. The authors used the technique of content analysis. The socially responsible practices dedicated to suppliers was classified into three dimensions and four categories. All of the automakers disclose information in their sustainability reports on socially responsible practices focused on their suppliers. However, the practices differ in terms of dimension and the area of CSR applied.

Tax policy is associated with the use and application of taxes and their instruments, which serve to influence macroeconomic and microeconomic processes in the economy. We can derive the tax policy from the applied economic policy of the state. The objectives of economic policy are aimed in particular at strengthening the effectiveness of the market mechanism, reducing pension and property inequality, as well as strengthening the internal and external stability of the state. In securing them, the state must take into account many internal, as well as international aspects, focused not only on economic but also on political, social, defenses, ethical and other interests. The individual goals that the state sets by its economic policy can be effectively achieved through goal-oriented policies that form part of economic policy. The state’s social policy, unemployment policy, tax policy, etc. fulfil their role. These policies then have a retroactive effect on the economic policy of the state. The subject or goal of tax policy is the application of tax principles and measures so that taxes serve to promote the economic, social and political goals of the state.

Abstract

The article examines the influence of migration processes on the formation and development of production capacities of countries. It is emphasized that population migration significantly affects the social and economic indicators of the country; under such influence, they can have both positive and negative trends. The article presents the main positive and negative consequences of population migration for donor countries, recipient countries, and for migrants themselves. It is proved that one of the most popular and promising is educational migration, which, under certain favorable circumstances, makes it possible to form highly qualified personnel, deepen international cooperation between higher education institutions of different countries, and strengthen the joint use of educational and scientific potential. The attention is focused on the fact that Ukraine today acts as a donor country and a leader in the number of young people who travel to study in Poland. It is indicated that in order to effectively regulate migration processes by the state, it is appropriate to ensure interaction between higher education institutions of different countries, namely, in the sphere of: a double-degree program, foreign internships, and holding joint international conferences. Using the example of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas and Ternopil National Economic University, it is shown how such interaction is implemented in practice and its consequences. The conclusions are based on the fact that educational migration is one of the most favorable types of migration. With its proper control by the state, it is possible to stimulate the development of the production industry in countries and improve social and economic indicators.

The paper discusses the issue of the development of the market of traditional food products in the Lubuskie province. Legal and institutional aspects of the development of the market are presented and the significance of the system of the European Union is stressed. The analysis was carried out from the point of view of sustainable development of the sector and according to the product structure as well as location of selected elements of the system of distribution. The aim of the paper is to identification and structuring of traditional food products in the Lubuskie region. Types of traditional products manufactured and sold on the market are presented, the research was conducted on the basis of secondary sources by means the analysis of information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the years 2006-2020. Changes which have taken place in the system of distribution are shown, and in particular local market places offering direct contact between producers and consumers of regional products. The analysis demonstrates increased interest in this market among regional producers.

Technological Forecasting of Deformations in Flat Parts

The deformation of a part occurring in the process of grinding directly influences its exploitation and quality parameters. The instability of shape and size, which occurs due to an imbalance of residual stress, can be the one of the major causes of deformation of a part. The decrease in stress slows down the deformation process. Considering the regularities of heat source intensity dependence on the grinding modes, it can be asserted that with increasing grinding depth and grinding wheel hardness, the value increases and it decreases with a growth in a speed of the part and the use of cooling. The higher the heat removal is and the better lubricant properties of the liquid are, the more significant the decrease in is. Changing these values allows regulation of the residual stresses. As a result of the research on determination of deformations, it is recommended to reduce thermal deformations by considering the geometric size of a plate to be machined, linear expansion coefficient of plate material and an allowance for nonflatness from thermal deformations. The value of nonflatness from thermal deformations is directly proportional to linear expansion coefficient of plate material and its square overall dimensions. At the same time, the value of nonflatness is inversely proportional to the plate thickness.

As a result of the research on determination of deformations, it is recommended to reduce thermal deformations by considering the geometric size of a plate to be machined, linear expansion coefficient of plate material and an allowance for nonflatness from thermal deformations. The value of nonflatness from thermal deformations is directly proportional to linear expansion coefficient of plate material and its square overall dimensions. At the same time, the value of nonflatness is inversely proportional to the plate thickness.

Abstract

The primary objective of the article is to identify conditions of restructuring from the point of view of Polish steel industry by using Cobb and Douglas model (C-D). Both in European economies and Polish economy, the steel industry is included to important branch of industry. The steel sector has been a permanent component of the Polish economy. Restructuring of metallurgy in Poland has been realized since 1990s. Finally after several years of changes (in the first decade of the 21st century) steel plants adjusted theirs operations to market economy conditions. Nowadays we think that the steel sector has competitive position on the domestic and European markets but if it is truth. On the base of C-D model, the author of the article presents results of the statistical analysis and answer the question about influence property and employment on production in steel industry. Obtained relations between particular components of production function show the condition of steel industry in Poland.

Abstract

This article presents the results of a simulation, testing the variation of main bearing loads and strains in crankshafts caused by geometrical deviations of the bearing system to justify the necessity and purposefulness of measurements of both the shape and axes position deviations of crankshaft journals. Measurements of these deviations at the existing level of applied measuring techniques are significantly limited. The research also accentuates the practical implementation of a measuring system equipped with the so-called flexible support system for the measured object, developed at the Maritime University of Szczecin. This system makes it possible to eliminate elastic deformations of the crankshaft due to its own weight, whereby the measurements of geometrical deformations of the crankshafts can be carried out with appropriate accuracy in conditions corresponding to the non-reference measurements when determining the object measured in counterpoints. The obtained results have fully confirmed the purposefulness of the conducted research and the validity of the theses.

Straight and Bent Bars Buckling Considered as the Axial Displacement of One Bar End

Abstract

A new approach has been taken to the problem of straight and bent bar buckling, where bar buckling is considered as a function of axial displacement of one end. It was assumed that the length of a bar being buckled at any instant of buckling is the same as that of a straight bar, regardless of the size of axial displacement of one end of the bar. Based on energy equations, a formula was derived for the value of axial displacement of one bar end or buckling amplitude in the middle of bar length as a function of compressive force. The established relationships were confirmed by simulation tests using the finite element software Midas NFX and by experimental tests.

Analysis of Gas and Dust Emissions From the Mining and Quarrying Sector in the European Union Countries

Abstract

Despite the ongoing changes in the energy and economic structure of the European Union countries, mineral and energy resources such as hard coal, brown coal, natural gas, copper ores, zinc ores and many other minerals continue to be extracted. Each year, the mining and extraction sector emits thousands of tons of harmful substances into the atmosphere, in the form of greenhouse and other air-polluting gases, as well as harmful dusts. These substances include, amongst others, carbon dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, as well as PM2.5 and PM10. The European Union climate policy clearly recommends that the exploitation of mineral resources be carried out in full respect of the principles of their rational, economical and environmentally neutral acquisition, which is confirmed by the promoted strategy of sustainable development economy. Therefore, this means the necessity to undertake actions aimed at limiting the emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants into the atmosphere. To assess the actions taken by the European Union countries to date with respect to limiting those emissions, a comparative analysis was carried out for the particular countries. This analysis encompassed the emission of harmful substances from the mining and quarrying sector by the European Union countries in the years 2008 and 2017. The purpose of the analysis was to show the diversity of those countries in terms of the emission of harmful gases and dusts, as well as to divide them into similar groups. Such a division paves the way for developing a common climate policy and exchanging experiences between the countries from the particular groups. The European Union countries were divided into similar groups using the k-means grouping method. Comparison was also made for the emissions of the substances under analysis for the particular countries over the research years. The results obtained unequivocally demonstrate that this emission has been limited in the European Union, but there are countries where the emission of certain substances has increased.

Abstract

This paper presents the problem of technical means failure, used both in longwall reinforcement and in the mining process. Longwall reinforcement – a concept related to launching a longwall mining excavation – is one of the most important elements in the process of hard coal seams exploitation. It consists in introducing all necessary machinery and equipment to the future longwall in order to enable the effective mining process. The efficiency of a longwall excavation as well as works related to the reinforcement of longwalls depends directly on properly selected machines and equipment of the longwall complex. In order to ensure greater effectiveness and efficiency, it is necessary to find the causes of the most frequent failures in these processes and effectively counteract them. These actions result in increased production availability of machines and equipment involved in the mining process. The increase of production availability is significantly influenced by the technical condition of technical means used both in longwall reinforcement and in the mining process, and their proper selection. This will ensure a largely failure-free and uninterrupted progress of works.

Quantitative Indicators of the Instantaneous Speed of a Ship’s Main Engine and its Usability in Assessing the Quality of the Combustion Process

Abstract

A graph of the changes in an engine’s operating speed can be used to assess the quality of the combustion in its cylinders. In this paper, the authors carried out tests on a Buckau-Wolf R8VD-136 ship engine, which was directly driving the propeller. This engine is owned by the Laboratory of Marine Engine Rooms at the Maritime University of Szczecin. For standard rotational speeds ranging from 200 to 280 rpm, with increments of 20 rpm, the authors measured the changes in the instantaneous speed for the engine’s normal operating conditions (reference graphs) as well as with one of the cylinders being out of operation. A no-combustion situation was successively introduced into each cylinder for each preset rotational speed. The obtained graphs of the instantaneous speed were then used to determine certain quantitative indicators, which the authors believe can provide information about the technical condition of the engine. The analysis concerned the averaged graphs of the speed under the conditions set for five consecutive engine operating cycles. The indicators that were calculated included the maximum difference in the speed over the engine’s full operating cycle, the uniformity of the engine speed and the differential speed area factor, the latter a term that has been proposed by the authors. The values of the individual indicators that were obtained from the reference graphs and the graphs with no combustion in one of the cylinders were compared. All indicators are sensitive to cylinder misfire. Conclusions were then drawn on the usefulness of these indicators in assessing the condition of an engine.

Analysis of the Time of Crew Evacuation from the Hazardous Area of Mining Exploitation Using Numerical Simulation

Abstract

Hard coal mines are vulnerable to a series of hazards that affect the safety and effectiveness of mining production. One of such hazards is the risk of underground fires. As the exogenous underground fires appear suddenly and have a highly dynamic course, it is very often necessary to quickly evacuate the crew from the danger area. The time needed to evacuate the crew from the danger area is most commonly determined by means of analytical methods, which provide a very general calculation. Therefore, it becomes necessary to also make use of other methods and tools for determining this time. Undoubtedly, such characteristics are offered by modern calculation methods based on the artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm and characterised by high accuracy. The paper presents a sample application of such a method for evacuating a 20-member crew from the heading under threat. In order to determine the evacuation time for those individuals, a calculation model was built for the total length of the escape routes equal to 900 m. The results revealed that the total evacuation time for workers moving with the speed corresponding to the movement speed in a heading filled with smoke (with considerably reduced visibility) will amount to approx. 21 minutes. The results obtained may constitute an essential source of information for service teams responsible for ensuring the operational safety in mine headings. At the same time, the model developed allows for broader application to the estimation of crew evacuation times from danger areas.

The paper presents and describes cooling systems mainly used in industrial plants specialized in production based on injection moulding machines. Each solution is rated taking into account investment costs, technical complexity, exploitation costs and system flexibility in general. With regard to dynamically changing law regulations linked to refrigeration installations, mainly F-Gases Act, during optimal system selection new restrictions were respected. This approach ensures long-term exploitation without additional complications. The paper contains characteristics of cooled facility, i.e. production plastic plant using injection moulding machines, presents specifics for this type of application where two extremely different cooling processes are placed in parallel. One task is heat collection from injection moulds to ensure short production time and produced details recurrence, the second is keeping hydraulic oil temperature between temperature limits – this process ensures proper oil viscosity and prevents its premature wear.

Abstract

A direct influence on the physical and mechanical state of the surface layer of wedge-shaped plates made of 8KHF steel is exerted by heat generation processes developing in the zone of a high-speed thermal process. Research on the influence of the parameters of a high-speed thermal process on the change in the structure of 8KHF steel (GOST 5950-2000 Russia, standard PN/H 85023 brand NCV1 Poland) was fulfilled. It allowed studying the nature of the change in the microstructure depending on short-term heating to various temperatures and rapid cooling. As a result, critical points of the beginning and the end of structural transformations during heating were determined. Research on thermal processes in a high-speed thermal process made it possible to establish regularities of influence of cutting speed, source speed, contact area, coolant properties and heat transfer coefficient on the temperature and rate of thermal processes in surface layers, as well as their impact on the depth of heating to a certain temperature. The study also allowed us to show the relationship between temperature and rates of heating and cooling. The solution to this problem, taking into account the action of the cooling fluid, gives the opportunity to bring the picture of the development of thermal processes closer to real conditions and makes it possible to reasonably predict the structural state of the surface layer of wedge-shaped parts made of 8KHF steel under various conditions of a high-speed thermal process.

Abstract

In the article the possibility of using selected adaptive models to forecast accidents at work during repairing, maintaining and installing machines, was presented. On the basis of statistical data on persons injured in accidents at work (2009-2018), the process of their forecasting was carried out (for 2019 and the years 2019-2021) and the errors of expired forecasts were determined. Prediction of empirical data allowed for the assessment of accident rates among persons injured in total accidents and allowed for the assessment of the state of occupational safety in the area with was analyzed. The presented models can be used to assess accidents in other sectors of the economy and be a tool used to assess the state of occupational safety in an enterprise.

Machines for Mechanical Mining of Hardly Workable and Abrasive Rocks

Mechanical mining is a widely used method for separating material from mined rock in the mining branch, tunnelling, road and construction industries. Depending on the mechanical properties of rocks, most often defined by uniaxial compressive strength, various machines and tools are applied. Apart from rock strength, the efficiency of the mining process is determined by abrasiveness, which affects the rate of tool abrasive wear. Currently, disc mining by static pressure or rear undercutting are the most developed methods. Undercutting can be supported by high pressure water jet or disk oscillation. Mining with drills also utilizes static pressure. In addition to discs, conical picks are applied; they are mounted on cutterheads. In underground mining and tunnelling, there is an increasing need to cut abrasive rocks with a strength of more than 120 MPa in places where explosive materials cannot be used. In the article, the recently applied and developed methods of cutting abrasive rocks characterized by high strength, such as copper, gold, tungsten or platinum ores and diamond deposits, have been presented. Next, the latest machines and machine systems used for their mining are reviewed. Leaders in the mining machinery industry, such as Joy (Komatsu), Epiroc (Atlas Copco), Sandvik and Aker Wirth are developing proprietary designs of cutting machines based on both well-known and completely new ideas.

Work Safety Improvement Within Autonomous Maintenance

Employers are under a legal obligation to provide employees with safe and hygienic conditions of work. These conditions are created by environmental factors that depend on the specifics of the enterprise, production technology and used machinery and equipment. A large number of the risks to which employees are exposed is associated with the use of machinery, equipment and working tools (as confirmed by Statistics Poland). Numerous manufacturing companies increasingly use the practice of involving operators, independently from the maintenance department, in the upkeep and maintenance of machinery and equipment in order to increase efficiency. These activities are undertaken within the scope of Autonomous Maintenance (AM), which is one of the essential elements underpinning the TPM system. The activities performed by operators within AM, such as daily inspections, lubrication or simple repairs, reduce the number of machinery breakdowns. Nonetheless, they could be a potential source of risk for employees. Companies applying the traditional division of tasks entrust the performance of such activities to qualified maintenance staff, so the proper identification of risks that takes into account the specificity of the activities performed by operators and the provision of training in the safe organization of work represent a significant feature of safety improvement. Enterprises may adopt multiple solutions in this regard, including the tools and techniques of the concept of Lean Manufacturing.

Digital Prototyping on the Example of Selected Self-Propelled Mining Machines

Abstract

The changing requirements and needs of users as well as the demand for new mining machinery solutions pose a challenge for designers. Time spent on the design phase of a new machine is often reduced to a minimum. Small lot production and sometimes single piece production entails the necessity to frequently design and manufacture commercial copies, which are also prototypes. The only effective solution is to apply available CAD and CAE programs enabling digital prototyping. Their use allows for making a complete machine in a virtual environment. The virtual model is subjected to tests aimed at eliminating collisions, optimizing the construction as well as obtaining a lot of information concerning the load, kinematics, dynamics, stability and power demand. Digital prototyping enables avoiding the majority of errors whose detection and elimination in a real object is time-consuming and expensive. The article presents examples of the application of broadly understood computer aided designing of self-propelled mining machines, produced by Mine Master. The effects of applying the modelling, FEM strength analysis, static and dynamic simulations, modelling of drive systems have been demonstrated. The methods used to validate computer models and verify the parameters of finished machines have also been discussed.

Optimisation of Logistics Processes Using Simulation Tools

Abstract

Optimization of production logistics processes through the use of simulation tools brings a lot of benefits to a production company, and thus significantly reduces production costs. Increasing competition resulting from the use of production automation to increase productivity has increased the complexity of production systems that can only be analysed by simulation. Production logistics performs management functions such as planning, motivating, organising and controlling. It does not deal with technological processes, but the organisation of physical delivery and displacement of components and information in the system. An important feature of production logistics is combining supply logistics with distribution logistics. If the production logistics is properly organised, it provides access to all materials and components of a given product during the implementation of a specific order. Simulation tools ensure continuity and rhythm of production after it is started, as well as convenient conditions for using modern internal transport. The article presents the Flexsim simulation tool, which was used to improve production logistics in the studied enterprise. The programme also contributed as an opportunity to improve and shorten production cycles, maintain optimal inventories, select packaging and logistics units, as well as the ability to use automatic identification of raw materials, materials or semi-finished products.

Increasingly popular remote work requires the use of modern network technologies to provide employees in a remote location with access to the company’s IT resources. The answer to the needs of remote access to files and server services can be the use of clouds and VPS. However, this involves high costs and requires entrusting the enterprise’s data to the providers of these services. Both for reasons of data security and too high costs, enterprises sometimes cannot use these technologies. The solution to the problem may be the use of encrypted VPN tunneling, which allows the device to be connected at a remote location to the company’s local network and use its resources as if it was connected to the local network with physical transmission medium.

Influence of the Volumetric Expenditure of Air Supplied to the Longwall Through the “Y” Ventilation System on the Location of an Area at the Risk of an Endogenic Fire

Abstract

In the case of longwall ventilation, in the underground hard coal mines, a phenomenon related to the migration of a certain amount of the air stream supplied to the longwall deep into goaf zones occurs. One of the wall ventilation systems, in which this phenomenon is quite intense, is the so called “Y” ventilation system. This migration is immensely unfavorable because it can lead to the self-heating process of coal left in a goaf and, consequently, to an endogenous fire. Such a fire is a great threat to both the safety and continuity of operation processes. For this reason, various activities are undertaken to prevent such a fire from occurring in goaf zones. One solution is a method presented in this article. It aims at determining an area in goaf zones, where an endogenous fire may occur. The study focused on the longwall ventilated with the Y system. This area was determined based on two criteria, namely air velocity and oxygen content. The study was carried out for various volumes of air supplied to the longwall. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to develop research methodology and determine the location of an area at the risk of an endogenous fire. The location of this area was determined for three different volume expenditures of air supplied to the longwall ventilated with the Y system.

The subject matter presented in the article touches the problem of incufficient efficiency of processes and systems in organisation. Achievement of adequate efficiency value is a guarantor of competitive advantage of enterprise. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly work on methods and techniques to improve efficiency, tailored to the needs of various organizations, which also includes service enterprises. Service enterprises include public transport companies. The purpose of the latter is to guarantee that the passenger will be transported from stop A to stop B within a certain time. Failure to achieve this goal incurs certain social costs. Therefore, the article focuses on measures and ways to improve efficiency, developed in Eastern Asian enterprises that have been successful as a result of their use. The first part of the article reviews the literature, including the methods used in this part of the world. The second part, however, concerns the possibility of using the BOST method in improving the efficiency of public transport enterprise processes in Poland.

Influence of the Permeability of the Longwall Goaf Zones on the Location of an Area With Explosive Methane Concentration Levels

Abstract

One of the basic ventilation hazards and, at the same time most dangerous, in hard coal mines is the methane hazard. During the exploitation process using the longwall system with the breaking down of roof rocks, methane is released into mining excavations from both mined coal and the one left in goaves. Significant amounts of methane also flow from the underworked and overworked seams, through cracks and fissures formed in the rock mass. When accumulated at an explosive concentration level in goves and at an appropriate oxygen concentration level and the occurrence of a trigger (e.g. a spark or endogenous fire), methane may either explode or ignite. These are immensely dangerous phenomena. Therefore, the possibility of their occurrence should be limited. The article presents the results of the research aimed at determining the impact of the permeability of goaf zones on the distribution of methane and oxygen concentration levels in these goaves. The study was carried out for the longwall ventilated with the Y system. The model analysis was conducted, the results of which allowed the authors to determine these distributions. On their basis, both the location and size of the areas in which hazardous methane concentrations could occur were designated. The results are of great practical importance as they indicate areas in goaves where preventive measures should be implemented.

A Generation of Innovative Technical Ideas and Solutions as an Important Component of the KOMAG Strategy

Abstract

The article presents some strategic aspects of the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology in the field of creating innovative ideas and innovative technical solutions concerning machinery and devices for mining and preparation of minerals as regards their operational safety, productivity and reliability. Special attention is paid to a process of stimulating innovative ideas in a creative atmosphere, as KOMAG researchers and engineers are encouraged to be open-minded and to think in an unconventional way. Two examples of innovative technical solutions are described in detail, i.e. the water-and-air dust control system and the KOMTRACK haulage system for highly productive longwall systems of a new generation. The article contributes significantly to Innovation Engineering which is an important component of Production Engineering in the scope of generating and implementing innovative solutions. The authors presented an ecosystem of innovations, describing several methods of creating innovative ideas. The article concentrates on a role of Polish research institutes which play a key role in creating and implementing innovative solutions, bridging science and industry. Due to an analysis of different methods of generating innovative technical ideas and solutions, it can be concluded that an idea and a need of generating an innovative solution may appear in the research institute or at the industrial partner’s organization. In the case of the KOMAG multi-year experience and practice industrial partners include not only producers of mining machinery and equipment, but also representatives of mines of minerals. In general an innovative idea is generated in the result of an inspiration from the business environment and then it is transformed into an innovative product or service. The article contains the authors’ practical recommendations as regards a creation of innovative technical solutions. It is ended with a summary of general character and with some final conclusions.

Wear Resistance Improvement of Equipment for Production of Building Ceramics by Hardfacing with Flux-Coerd Electrodes based on Fe-Ti-B-C System

Abstract

In this work were analyzed factors that leads to wearing of equipment of production engineering, construction, oil and gas, woodworking, tillage industries. Was established that traditional hardfacing materials based on the Fe-Cr-C system are not effective for improvement of abrasion resistance of elements of equipment for production of ceramic building materials due to working conditions. The aim of this work was to increase a durability of that equipment by using of flux cored electrodes with reaction components that provide “in-situ” synthesis, which leads to fine-grained structure of refractory borides and carbides and their solid solutions with increased hardness. Powders of Ti, Mo, B4C and their combinations were used. Structure of the hardfacing coatings were investigated by method of metallography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Using of pure metal powders led to forming a fine-grained structure with refractory borides and carbides and their solid solutions. It was investigated that the offered material based on Fe-Ti-Mo-C-B system used for increasing the wear resistance of extruder-screw for production of ceramic building material can increase the TBO period in 2.2-2.4 times in comparison with serial hardfacing materials based on Fe-Cr-C system.

Use of Reverse Engineering and Additive Printing in the Reconstruction of Gears

Abstract

Despite the very rapid technological development, the general concept of mechanical devices has not changed. Still, the most common element of these devices are gears, whose range of use is very wide. There are both technological and historical considerations for the reconstruction of gears and other elements. In particular, this applies to spare parts for technical facilities that are not available on the market or service costs are too high. Contemporary reconstruction is called Reverse Engineering, which offers tools that allow transformation of an existing object through a virtual model into the final real product. Modern production engineering is based on innovative CAD – Computer Aided Designed design methods and computer-aided manufacturing technologies, CAM – Computer Aided Manufacturing. The rapid development of 3D CAD systems has led to the development of solutions to obtain the designed object, already at the development stage. Such a solution is the Rapid Prototyping method, designed for fast, precise and repeatable production of machine components. Widespread use and growing interest in the use of additive printing influenced the development of this technology. The purpose of the article is to present the practical application of the Reverse Engineering method and 3D printing in the reconstruction of gears. The object of research is the real gear, which has been reconstructed using Reverse Engineering and 3D printing. The article presents the basic assumptions of the methods used and the methodology for conducting reconstruction work. FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology was used for the research. The results obtained are a real example of the practical application of the presented methods. At the same time, they create great opportunities for their wider use.

Ensuring Equal Bandwidth for Remote Connections to the Local Company Server

Abstract

Creating the required IT infrastructure to enable the ability for comfortable remote working is not an easy task. Improper configuration can create the possibility of taking over the whole bandwidth of the link by one device. Increasing bandwidth introduces extra costs and does not completely eliminate the problem – it will be more difficult to take over the whole bandwidth, but it is still possible. The solution to the problem may be the use of clouds and VPS, but it is associated with high costs and the need to entrust company data to providers of these services. Due to security and too high costs, this may not be an optimal solution. An alternative solution may be to use QoS along with PCQ. This mechanism allows to ensure equal division of the bandwidth between the devices under its control. With an appropriate configuration, QoS can eliminate the problem of taking over the whole bandwidth and ensure equal access to resources.

Abstract

The article presents the issues covering the modern methods of securing data in both manufacturing processes and companies within the concept of Industry 4.0. In this approach, research problems arose how to implement the right method of secure data sending in sales, manufacturing and distribution processes. It is a very important issue for manufacturing companies as well as how the process of sending electronic data should be safely conducted. While current researches concentrated on the method of blockchain secured electronic documents, there is almost no research concentrating on blockchain integrator selection criteria. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a decision assistance model based on multiple criteria decision analysis technique. Also, mutual relationships between parameters for the assessment of integrators are established. In the article, a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) was used to assess these characteristics. The Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique was chosen for this assessment.

Acoustic Modelling of Sport and Hunting Shooting Ranges in the Aspect of Shaping Noise Emissions Into the Environment

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of acoustic modelling of sport and hunting shooting ranges for the purposes of carrying out acoustic impact assessments on the environment. The fashion for recreational shooting and the dynamic development of shooting ranges resulted in conflict situations between the shooting range and the residents. Increasingly, the condition for allowing the shooting range to be used is to carry out an acoustic analysis to confirm the lack of noise nuisance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop guidelines for acoustic modelling of shooting ranges, taking into account their purpose and types of shooting axes. Each of the shooting axes is designed for a different type of shooting and thus has different acoustic characteristics. In the article, the author presents a method of modelling noise emissions from the shooting range on the example of one of the popular shooting competitions which is the hunting trap. First, acoustic measurements of the unit noise source related to the firing of shots by a firearms shooter were made. Then the directional characteristics of this source were determined, the shooting axis of the “hunting trap” type was modelled during a typical shooting competition and its directionality was determined. Then, on the example of a specific shooting range, the possibility of using the results to analyse the propagation of noise into the environment during typical shootings on the trap axis was presented.

Containerization of Server Services

Abstract

Businesses are increasingly confronted with server-related problems. More and more, businesses are enabling remote working and need to rely on network services. The provision of network services requires rebuilding the network infrastructure and the way employees are provided with data. Web applications and server services use common dependencies and require a specific network configuration. This often involves collisions between network ports and common dependencies’ configuration. This problem can be solved by separating the conflicting applications into different servers, but this involves the cost of maintaining several servers. Another solution may be to isolate applications with virtual machines, but this involves a significant overhead on server resources, as each virtual machine must be equipped with an operating system. An alternative to virtual machines can be application containerization, which is growing in popularity. Containerization also allows to isolate applications, but operates on the server’s native operating system. This means eliminating the overhead on server resources present in virtual machines. This article presents an example of web application containerization.

Analysis of Distortion Mechanisms Used in Rotary Steerable Systems

Abstrakt

Abstract

Drilling with a rotary steerable system, the mechanical drilling speed increases by two times compared to drilling with a screw bottom-hole motor, which provides significant savings drilling-time. The effective length of the horizontal elbow increases, which enables to increase the production rate more than twice. It is found that in comparison with the bottom hole motor, rotary steerable system provides drilling smoother barrel, which reduces the risk of accidents to come out. The dependence between the type of the bent housing and the most rational fields of its application is revealed, recommendations on the choice of the rotary steerable system for various issues of directional drilling are developed.

Abstract

Manufacturing companies operate on data from production, operation and trade. The strategy of creating and collecting data at the centre of production processes has significantly improved in recent years. Manufacturers are now collecting and storing vast amounts of data from their manufacturing facilities, both online and offline, from multiple geographic locations and with a growing number of separate data repositories. The design of workplaces and products continues to migrate from paper to the computer, where analysis accuracy, visualization, and collaboration utilities allow designs to be realized much faster and better than ever before. As the pace of this development accelerates with the increased capabilities of the software design tools, less time is spent on physical prototyping, allowing for shortened time-to-market for new products. Ergonomists, who in the past used the physical prototypes to perform human factors analyses, are now challenged to move the analysis into the virtual domain using new tools and methods. Usability, maintainability, physical ergonomic assessments, psychological perception, and procedural training are some of the human factors issues that might benefit from analysis prior to the first physical incarnation of the design.

The Possibility of Modeling Parts in Production Technology

Abstract

The object of the research is a part “Flange half of differential case”, which has complex shape of a housing. The subjects of the research are the processes of selection of analogue material, workpiece production method, and justification of the structural and technological parameters of a part, taking into account 3D-modeling of the structure, deformations, displacements, stresses, and safety factor. The selection of analogue material is connected with suspension of production of open-hearth steel grade Mst.6 GOST 380-50. The objectives of the work include juxtaposition of computer models of deformations, displacements, stresses, safety factors of the part made of different analogue materials; comparison of models according workpiece production methods with consideration of material utilization ratio, structural and technological features of resulting workpieces. For modelling we have chosen the several types of materials. Research on modelling processes was fulfilled by means of software of Kompasv17, Solid Works, Solid works simulation. Volumetric models of parts and workpieces for all studied materials have been created taking into account the deformations, displacements, stresses, and safety factor. There results of modelling of “Flange half of differential case” allowed us to make recommendations for production conditions. These recommendations include the use of steel 45 GOST 1050-2013 as analogue material, hot forging of a workpiece on a horizontal forging machine, creating of design and technological documentation for the manufacture of the part.

Critical Incident Technique as an Instrument for Assessing the Service Quality in a Chosen E-Shop

Abstract

The development of e-commerce and communication technologies has allowed changes in the traditional trading system, currently customers can use both stationery shops and e-shops. People no longer need to leave their homes to go shopping, even everyday groceries. They can use the e-shop at any time of day or night, at home or at work. There are no queues, they can get to know other people’s opinions, compare products and services with each other. They can shop while sitting on the sofa in front of the TV and sipping tea. Shopping can be done in the e-shop up to thousands of kilometers away. Especially in the current Covid-19 pandemic, online shopping has become very popular. The aim of the paper was to assess the quality of services offered by the research e-shop. During the research the Critical Incident Technique (CIT) was used. A direct interview was conducted with the customers of the research e-shop who, after using its services, agreed to share their impressions and opinions. They were supposed to describe incidents or situations related to the research e-shop, which they have in their memory, and which caused special satisfaction or dissatisfaction. The analysis allowed to indicate that less than 50% of the incidents described by the customers were positive incidents that cause customers’ high satisfaction, which is not a good situation for the research e-shop. Improvement actions are needed.

Use of Quality Management Instruments in the Window Production Process

Abstract

The article presents the results of research analyzing the level of use of quality assurance instruments. The use of quality management instruments refers to the production of windows based on PVC profiles. Based on the results of surveys, which were additionally verified by an extended expert interview, an analysis was made of the level of use of quality assurance instruments at individual stages of the technological process. The main conclusion of the analyzes is that the most commonly used quality instruments are Pareto-Lorenz analysis, Ishikawa diagram, control cards and the FMEA method.

The Level of Occupational Health and Safety in European Enterprises Providing Transport and Logistics Services in Terms of Quality Management Principles

Abstract

Safety and quality management are very important elements of managing production and service processes. It is important not only to manage in itself, but above all to constantly improve processes and constantly strive for excellence. However, continuous improvement of the organization is one of the key principles of quality management, it states that improvement can be obtained from the analysis of existing processes or measurement results. In this paper the level of occupational health and safety in european enterprises providing transport and logistics services in terms of quality management principles. On the basis of the presented results it was found that in large enterprises safety management principles are respected, while in small and medium enterprises the level of safety does not look very promising. An interesting phenomenon was observed in the case of micro-enterprises (family businesses). Research shows that employees know and adhere to the safety principle, but they do not see too much change in improving the level of safety.

In the article, the author presents in an expanded approach the results of previously conducted research, described in his previous publications and aimed at understanding the needs and capabilities of Polish micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) in recognizing challenges and implementing practical solutions from the area fitted to of the Industry 4.0 paradigm. In addition to the detailed and based on selected examples discussion of the results of the first round of surveys conducted among the owners and management staff of this category of enterprises operating in the area of the Upper Silesian – Zagłębie Metropolis in the Upper Silesian Voivodship, the results obtained in the second round of research were also shown and compared with first-round results. The results obtained are the basis for the plan of further, extended research. The author presents the elements of such research plan in the last part of this article.

On the Influence of Parts’ Materials Properties on the Assembly Orientation

Abstract

The material of a part or component has a decisive impact on the complexity and laboriousness of assembly process. Thus, solid, fragile and flexible parts and components are all handled in a different way. The present paper classifies some of the most common types of materials parts are usually made of, while also analyzing their impact on the assembly process. In mechanical engineering, solid parts are most often used, given that these do not require special measures in known assembly orientation and handling techniques. However, such solid materials pose several challenges as well, and this mainly due to their several specific shapes, which means a specific problem in gripping and especially in their orientation during the assembly process. In this regard, the paper also addresses with one of the most important and assembly-troublesome properties of these solid parts, which the degree of symmetry. The degree of symmetry of solid parts has a direct impact on the complexity and laboriousness of their orientation in assembly. The last part of the paper focuses on the theoretical basis for the calculation of complexity and laboriousness in the assembly of parts.

Analysis of Methane Emissions From Air Shafts of the Jastrzębska Coal Mining Company in 2017-2019

Abstract

The paper presents formation of the amount of methane released from a coal deposit during coal mining. The total amount of released methane is composed of the amount separated directly into the ventilation air in mines (ventilation methane) and included in the demethanation system, isolated from the ventilation air. Methane from the demethanation system is only partially utilized. The unused part of methane is discharged into the atmosphere. The paper presents how the amount of methane released in individual mines of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa S.A. was shaped, with a division into methane released to the ventilation system and included in the demethanation system, taking into account the part used for economic purposes and the part discharged to atmosphere. The research material covers the years 2017-2019.

3D Object Digitization Devices in Manufacturing Engineering Applications and Services

Abstrakt

Abstract

The rapid development of CAD 3D systems has led to the development of solutions enabling the physical achievement of the designed object, already at the design stage. Such a solution is the rapid prototyping method, intended for fast, precise and repeatable production thanks to additive technology. The first basic step of this method is a 3D scan. It is a technique that analyzes a real object in order to collect data about its basic (geometric) and additional (e.g. color) features. The collected data is used to generate three-dimensional, virtual models. Scanning can be performed in various ways using different devices. The aim of the article is to review the available technologies for digitizing 3D objects and to compare them in the context of individual application areas. It presents selected tools and software that will economically and efficiently increase the range of applications of digitization methods in the production process and offering various services on the market.

Abstract

The article presents the results of research on the use of measuring devices based on RFID tags and graphic tags to track the increase in production. The conducted research experiments were made in a real production company, which is characterized by an average degree of digitization of its business processes and significantly uses the human factor in production. The conducted research allowed us to show the usefulness of measurement methods in tracking business processes, and to analyze the method of obtaining production data to achieve the traceability of manufactured components. The study also presents selected examples of IT systems in solving traceability problems (traceability and traceability of production).

Investigation of the Physical, Mechanical and Aesthetic Characteristics of Terrazo Tiles Obtained from Different Rock Aggregates

Throughout history, people have covered the floors of the buildings with materials such as carpet, rock pieces, wood, mosaic, ceramic and tile according to the conditions of the day due to their desire to protect them from moisture, make them hygienic environment easy to clean and give an aesthetic appearance. The merging of mechanization with cement based materials with the industrial revolution in the 19th century has brought along the development of diversity and different production methods in these floor covering materials. One of these coating materials is terrazo tiles that form the subject of the current paper. Terrazo tiles are materials obtained by pressing the mortar obtained by mixing water, cement, marble powder and aggregate in certain proportions. Within the scope of this research, it was aimed to provide alternative raw materials to the tile body and to transform the rock pieces, which are found in waste form in natural stone workshops, into the economy. For this purpose, geomaterials collected from magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks cropped in the Kahramanmaraş-Antakya-Elazığ regions and natural stone workshops operating in Kahramanmaraş city, were classified according to their geological origins and aggregates of 4.75-12 mm were obtained with the help of jaw crushers and sieves. Tiles have been produced in accordance with the method of tile production from sized aggregates. The produced tiles were kept in the water pool for 28 days and surface controls were made. According to the physical and mechanical test results applied to the tile samples, water absorption by weight is 5.31-13.25%, bending strength 4.95-8.89 MPa, Böhme abrasion resistance 1.09-3.43 cm3/50cm2, mass loss after freeze-thaw is observed to be in the range of 0.97-1.59%. On the other hand, the surface roughness of the tiles prepared with coarse rock aggregates was found to be relatively lower than the tile samples obtained with fine grained rock aggregates. The obtained results indicate that the geomaterials subject to the research can be used as an alternative raw material source in tile production and these raw materials will provide new benefits to the construction field.

Evaluation of the Quality of Conical Picks and the Possibility of Predicting the Costs of Their Use

Abstract

Currently, the user’s choice of a conical pick involves specifying its geometric and material parameters, taking into account the place and conditions of its work. The selection is then made, usually on the basis of solely one criterion, which is the price. Thus, at the stage of both purchase and operation, the quality of picks and their suitability for a specific machine and the processed mineral are not assessed. Therefore, a method was developed to enable conducting tests that determine the geometric parameters of a pick, the types of materials of the pick body and WC insert as well as the pick wear rate (intensity) in a laboratory workstation. The wear rate (intensity) is described by the C2 index – the smaller is its value, the slower is the pick’s wear. The C2 index has been used to forecast the wear of picks and to determine their unit price and operating costs. This allows for precise determination of investment requirements and a proper selection of the pick.

Developing the Cognitive Abilities of Elderly People with the Use of IT Technologies: Presentation of the Project Assumptions and Description of the Research Concept

Abstract

The progress of digitization and the development of new technologies undoubtedly bring many benefits. However, they can also create or deepen problems related to the social exclusion of certain groups of people, such as the elderly, for whom modern technology is still largely unavailable, and even arouses a sense of uncertainty and fear (the so-called technophobia). The consequences of such a phenomenon become particularly evident in the situation of social isolation, whose unprecedented dimension is currently observed in the so-called COVID-19 pandemic era. In particular, the occurrence of the phenomenon of social exclusion combined with a pandemic situation has contributed to the development of the assumptions of the project entitled “Developing the cognitive capabilities of older people through information technology.” This project was developed by the INNOVATOR Student Science Club at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology, and its goal is to develop a tool to support the acquisition of competences by seniors in the field of technological content, operation of electronic devices and the implementation of daily and routine activities using the Internet, e.g. shopping via the Internet or using tele advice services. The proposed tool is also to support the stimulation of the development of cognitive abilities of seniors using e.g. logical games. In the course of project implementation, a survey will be conducted in selected Nursing Homes, Retirement Homes, online forums for the elderly and through direct contact, the results of which will allow to learn the needs and possibilities of developing the abilities of the examined people, and assess the effectiveness of the designed tool in the process of transferring content and shaping competences. An element encouraging seniors to participate in the planned research will be their active participation in lectures and/or talks, workshops and discussions. The assumed result of the project will be to reduce the negative effects of isolation of seniors, improve their communication with their loved ones and reduce the generation gap. A complementary research task will be to develop a way to assess project results in qualitative and, where possible, quantitative dimensions.

The aim of the paper is an analysis of cooperation between enterprises and universities from a business perspective in Poland and the United States (USA). The article focuses on selected determinants from a business perspective. The determinants of the enterprises and university cooperation included areas of cooperation as well as the motivations and barriers for cooperation. Extended interviews were conducted in Poland and the USA using a questionnaire as the research tool. The results of the research showed differences between the enterprises and universities cooperation in Poland and the USA.

The objective of this article is to present the results of research concerning the assessment of the actually implemented Quality Policy in social and cultural area of selected industrial enterprises. In the first part of the article, the essence of the Quality Policy and its implicational meaning for the functioning of the enterprise in the scope of quality were described. What is more, the study also contains the problems associated with analyzing the quality policy. The main part of the article contains the results of research carried out in the years 2015-2019 among 166 industrial enterprises carrying out their activity in Poland. The objective of the research was the assessment of the actually implemented quality policy in the enterprises. The data was obtained on the basis of survey carried out among representatives of middle management in each enterprise. Statistical analysis of the results allowed to assess the quality policy in groups of enterprises depending on their size, management system and the so-called level of independence in management.

Abstract

The paper deals with application of soft-skills competence in practice comparing of education and employers requirements. In addition to what a graduate is to know in terms of the knowledge theoretically acquired, the labour market today defines quite clearly the specific requirements in terms of what a graduate should be able to do, provide for, organize, including the demands related to their competences. The purpose of the paper is to assess the ethical credibility of selected subjects in the field of soft skills based on the analysis and conclusions of research conducted in 2018-2019 at the Technical University in Zvolen. The method of questionnaire survey was chosen for the execution of the research. The paper presents the results of the selected area research of soft-skills, which showed the most significant differences – stress resistance. To evaluate the results was used the Mann-Whitney test of significance which is an especially appropriate test for two independent and randomly selected sets of sample observations. At the end of paper are proposed recommendations for improving teaching in accordance with the requirements of practice.

Improving the Management of Storage Stock in the Tire Industry Using the Example of a Selected Company

Abstract

In a well-organized company, stock levels are precisely planned. In order to optimize inventory, various analyses of inventory usage are carried out in terms of them quantity and status. The work presents research on improving the method of managing inventory in the tire industry using the example of a selected company. The company operates warehouses in which tires for passenger cars and vans are stored. Products stored in warehouses ensure high standards. The company focuses on individuality and has a strong market position. The paper presents the results of the ABC and XYZ analysis that allow grouping tires by demand, value and number. The criteria for choosing the ABC/XYZ method are a simple way of use and low financial outlays, in contrast to such methods as MRP or just in time. Furthermore, calculations of such standards as rotation ratios for individual seasons and optimal inventory were carried out. The rotation indicator allows determine which goods are sold quickly and which goods are selling poorly, and therefore the costs associated with their storage are probably higher than from the sale of profits. As a result of the analysis, improvements were made to the inventory management system. The implementation of the proposed methods and tools for inventory management allowed the company to eliminate unnecessary inventories, reduce storage costs and minimize inventory control.

Analysis of the Features of a Degraded Land in Terms of Revitalization – Case Study on the Example of a Post-Smelter Area

Abstract

The process of transformation in the Polish economy, transforming it from a planned economy into a market economy, has resulted, among others, in the liquidation of many heavy industry plants in the Upper Silesian Industrial Region (GOP). GOP cities, which grew up on the basis of heavy industry, were spatially planned according to the needs of mining and metallurgical plants. Liquidation of the plants resulted in the creation of degraded, unused post-industrial areas, scattered over various city districts. Their location is often very attractive, but with many drawbacks, such as degradation, contamination by harmful substances or unclear legal status, potential investors are reluctant to take interest in them. Detailed documentation of the land’s characteristics, the effects of the activity previously carried out here, the community’s expectations regarding the use and development of such land, will make it easier for the investor to take a decision on the redevelopment of the area. The article is an example of a preliminary analysis of a selected post-industrial area, which helps to outline the direction of its revitalization.

Social Utopias and Engineering Design

Abstract

A paradox of our time is identified: on the one hand – the development of one global system (ecological, technological and social), on the other hand – the still increasing “balkanization” of science. The dynamics of this systems is a source of well-known numerous global problems. Its possibly effective solution needs adequate knowledge about the system. For this reason, counteraction to “balkanization” of science is of great practical importance. And this counteraction should comprise not only development of “transboundary” sciences (such as biochemistry or social psychology) but also establishing and developing links between very distant disciplines. This text is intended as a contribution to linking social and engineering sciences. The notion of design plays the central role in this text. Its meaning in the engineering sciences. The notion of utopia has been chosen as a partial counterpart to the term of engineering design. This notion was defined using a concept of possible world – taken from modal logic. It encompasses two ideas: this of design and that of prediction, It is claimed that we need many utopias and that their plurality is of fundamental importance for protecting us against the threats of utopianism. The paper suggests that social utopias can play a heuristic role in engineering design (particularly in the initial phase of defining technological problems), and – on the other hand – that the theory of engineering design can be supportive for, badly needed, development of methodology of utopias creation.

Marketing concentrates mainly on customer acquisition by means of advertisements broadcast in mass media and on billboards. The change to be made in traditional marketing is the shift of interests from satisfying needs to meeting expectations. @Marketing may serve as a tool for that. The aim of this paper is to present a new concept for @marketing, based on innovative forms of product presentation. The paper focuses on the marketing content, without consideration of technical aspects. Research has been carried out in the field of customers’ expectations towards online presentations. In the new conditions, a product presentation should be expanded by innovative forms such as narration, photography and computer graphics. Therefore, there is a need to develop comprehensive projects for planning online presentations as soon as possible. It should be preceded by detailed analyses carried out by IT specialists and marketing experts.

Instruments Supporting Sustainable Development

Abstract

This article presents the most important aspects of the sustainable development policy and indicates the instruments that have an impact on its shaping. In addition, attention was drawn to the fact that issues related to sustainable development (mainly in the context of spatial planning and investment) and environmental protection are also discussed as leading topics in discussions on the quality of life in Europe. In the conclusions for the future, points were identified that prove to be the most important goals for the current and future development of Europe as a whole, namely: promoting sustainable spatial development; strengthening business location; infrastructure optimization; ensuring social stability in areas such as health, education and social policy; careful use of natural resources (promoting biodiversity and supporting material cycle optimization), i.e. helping to ensure that the natural foundations of life are available to the next generation as much as possible; continuation of advanced energy policy (reduction of CO2 emissions in line with target values); strengthening education (continuing to consolidate the education system, improving the conditions for employing teachers, as well as ensuring the financial stability of educational institutions); ensuring the safety of; effective positioning of regions (cooperation between regions that jointly implement key projects and take greater account of common interests at national level).

This paper aims at examining the role of job autonomy in organizations and its relation with employee performance. This will be achieved by providing a critical review of the subject matter in existing management literature. In recent years, the concept of job autonomy has gained an increasing importance in practice of Human Resource Management. Even some studies claimed that job autonomy directly affects job performance and some of its indicators including job satisfaction, motivation, job engagement and job commitment. As a result, current paper aims at studying the effect of job autonomy on employee performance by critically reviewing existing work of human resource scholars. Main research questions approached by authors include: Is there any meaningful relationship between job autonomy and employee’s job performance distinguished in existing literature? If yes, what impact can be expected from job autonomy on employee’s job performance?

Moving to Smart Cities Through the Standard Indicators ISO 37120

Abstract

In this article the current and most important standards focusing on smart city sector and organizations issuing them were presented. The standard-setting family for smart cities consists of four basic standards: ISO 37101, ISO 37120, ISO 37122 and ISO 37123. The paper also presents the indicators on the basis of which a city can apply for a certificate of ISO 37120 standard and presents the possibilities of a register of different cities from all over the world in the Global Cities RegistryTM, developed by WCCD (World Council on City Data). Thanks to the data contained in the database, city authorities can answer the question: How prosperous is my city? and compare with other cities from around the world. As an example of the use of WCCD data, a comparison of 21 European cities in terms of the amount of renewable energy consumption in relation to the size of population living in the city has been presented.

Analysis of working conditions in terms of ergonomics is an increasingly popular topic among industrial enterprises. This is primarily due to the development of departments responsible for maintaining safe and healthy working conditions, but also awareness of the impact of working conditions on maintaining safety and maintaining the rhythm of work. Care for working conditions translates into the possibility of maintaining the level of activities performed, which indirectly affects the quality of final products. Conducting activities in the field of shaping ergonomic working conditions in the context of continuous improvement based on the Deming cycle and the principles of conceptual ergonomics seem to be a key approach to care for work safety. Treating this process as a continuous and looped process gives you the ability to react quickly and predict adverse effects. However, constant control, observation, and analysis of the possibilities of implementing improvement solutions is important. The purpose of the article is to compare ergonomic working conditions at selected work stations with the assumptions and plans developed before launching the assembly line. The research included a comparative analysis of results in the form of ergonomic score obtained from TiCon software, based on MTM, UAS, and EAWS methods. The research was carried out at the turn of 2016-2020 in an automotive company dealing in the production of passenger car drive system components.

Abstract

The article presents the relationships between ergonomics and the effectiveness of work processes. A new thematic framework has been developed to evaluate the engineering design of work processes in conjunction with the effectiveness and ergonomics of workplaces. The model presented in the paper takes into account ergonomic factors that have a direct impact on shaping working environment in which a person is located and improving their efficiency. The model was validated in real conditions in the production company. The subject of the research was the work process existing in the plant producing food paper packaging. The main method used to assess working conditions was observation and qualitative and quantitative assessment of operational activities based on video recording. Detailed human actions were analyzed in terms of ergonomic factors to prove the relationship between ergonomics and efficiency. In addition, new technical solutions have been proposed that improve working conditions and the efficiency of the entire work process.

The transformation of the Polish economy during the period of its transformation from a planned socialist economy into a market economy resulted, among others, in the emergence of a large number of post-industrial areas which are no longer used. Located often in developed urban areas, with many disadvantages such as contamination or unstable ownership status, they are not of interest to investors. Exploiting the potential they undoubtedly have would in many cases require the investment of considerable resources, but in order for these to be allocated to the investment, the investor expects to gain complete knowledge of the character and specificity of the place. The article is an example of a preliminary analysis of a selected post-industrial area, which helps to outline the direction of future area redevelopment.

The construction phase of oil and gas projects (OGPs) is a risky process and project managers face numerous challenges during this particular period. A proper risk analysis and management during the construction phase of the OGPs not only will affect the timely and successful operation of the project as a whole, it can also affect occurrence of risks in subsequent phases and overall economic viability of the project. As a result, via using extensive literature review, this study tries to answer the question of what are main risks involved in construction phase of OGPs and which methods are used for identifying them? The outcome of this research would likely be a valuable source for construction professionals to improve project performance while managing existing risks. It is also useful to avoid common problems that befall many project managers and will assist them to have a better understanding of risk management as part of a project plan.

Abstract

The paper contains a comparative analysis of the competences needed to practice engineering in Poland and the United States (USA). Surveys of industries were conducted in Poland and the USA. Legal background of curricula was discussed. The surveys were done for the purpose of assessing the importance of competences as well as level of mastery those skills and attributes by engineering graduates. The results confirm differences in approach of entrepreneurs to graduates of engineering studies in Poland and the USA. In the USA entrepreneurs have higher expectations and the importance of individual competences is also different. The comparative analysis was done to identify the weaknesses in the engineering curricula and identifying the best practices.

Management Accounting Model for Small Industrial Enterprises

Abstract

The aim of the paper is a model of managerial accounting for small industrial enterprises, which is not theoretically developed in the literature and in most small enterprises, managerial accounting is not even practically applied. The questionnaire survey found information about the tasks, tools and methods that managerial accounting performs in medium-sized companies. The analysis of the use of managerial accounting is the practice of small industrial enterprises was carried out through guided personal interviews, while the evaluation specified the most problematic areas of its application in these enterprises. Based on the findings of the analysis following the information obtained on the tasks, methods and tools of management accounting in medium-sized enterprises, a model of management accounting for small industrial enterprises was proposed. It defined the tasks that managerial accounting should perform in small industrial enterprises and, among the existing methods and procedures traditionally used in managerial accounting, those that are practically applicable in the given enterprises were proposed. The main benefit of the paper is the management accounting model for small industrial enterprises. The main emphasis is placed on the transparency of costs and the interconnection of information on individual elements of the accounting information system with minimal capital expenditures.

Socially Responsible Supplier Development. Practices of Automotive Industry

Abstract

A socially responsible company should take responsibility for its impact but also take care of the impact throughout its supply chain. Its perspective must be wider than only its own practices. Supplier development process can be used to spread socially and environmentally responsible practices across the supply chain. The aim of the paper is to identify and classify the socially responsible activities practised by the car producers and dedicated to their suppliers. In the paper sustainability reports of seven automakers were analysed. The authors used the technique of content analysis. The socially responsible practices dedicated to suppliers was classified into three dimensions and four categories. All of the automakers disclose information in their sustainability reports on socially responsible practices focused on their suppliers. However, the practices differ in terms of dimension and the area of CSR applied.

Abstract

Tax policy is associated with the use and application of taxes and their instruments, which serve to influence macroeconomic and microeconomic processes in the economy. We can derive the tax policy from the applied economic policy of the state. The objectives of economic policy are aimed in particular at strengthening the effectiveness of the market mechanism, reducing pension and property inequality, as well as strengthening the internal and external stability of the state. In securing them, the state must take into account many internal, as well as international aspects, focused not only on economic but also on political, social, defenses, ethical and other interests. The individual goals that the state sets by its economic policy can be effectively achieved through goal-oriented policies that form part of economic policy. The state’s social policy, unemployment policy, tax policy, etc. fulfil their role. These policies then have a retroactive effect on the economic policy of the state. The subject or goal of tax policy is the application of tax principles and measures so that taxes serve to promote the economic, social and political goals of the state.

Migration Factor of Stimuling the Development of the Production Industry in Ukraine and Poland

Abstract

The article examines the influence of migration processes on the formation and development of production capacities of countries. It is emphasized that population migration significantly affects the social and economic indicators of the country; under such influence, they can have both positive and negative trends. The article presents the main positive and negative consequences of population migration for donor countries, recipient countries, and for migrants themselves. It is proved that one of the most popular and promising is educational migration, which, under certain favorable circumstances, makes it possible to form highly qualified personnel, deepen international cooperation between higher education institutions of different countries, and strengthen the joint use of educational and scientific potential. The attention is focused on the fact that Ukraine today acts as a donor country and a leader in the number of young people who travel to study in Poland. It is indicated that in order to effectively regulate migration processes by the state, it is appropriate to ensure interaction between higher education institutions of different countries, namely, in the sphere of: a double-degree program, foreign internships, and holding joint international conferences. Using the example of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas and Ternopil National Economic University, it is shown how such interaction is implemented in practice and its consequences. The conclusions are based on the fact that educational migration is one of the most favorable types of migration. With its proper control by the state, it is possible to stimulate the development of the production industry in countries and improve social and economic indicators.

Abstract

The paper discusses the issue of the development of the market of traditional food products in the Lubuskie province. Legal and institutional aspects of the development of the market are presented and the significance of the system of the European Union is stressed. The analysis was carried out from the point of view of sustainable development of the sector and according to the product structure as well as location of selected elements of the system of distribution. The aim of the paper is to identification and structuring of traditional food products in the Lubuskie region. Types of traditional products manufactured and sold on the market are presented, the research was conducted on the basis of secondary sources by means the analysis of information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the years 2006-2020. Changes which have taken place in the system of distribution are shown, and in particular local market places offering direct contact between producers and consumers of regional products. The analysis demonstrates increased interest in this market among regional producers.
