During the last years, gamification has been regarded as a powerful tool to transform the EFL classroom into an engaging and entertaining learning context. The present paper aims to give insight into how gamification affects students’ intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. With a sample of 51 students of a state school located in Almazora (Castellón, Spain), an experimental group and a control group were created in order to compare digital to traditional methodologies, respectively. With the implementation of a Motivation’s Questionnaire and an Attitude’s Questionnaire, the obtained results indicated that the use of Quizizz motivates students both intrinsically and extrinsically and that students hold a favorable attitude towards the introduction of gamification in the EFL classroom. Finally, gamification seems to offer favourable results in the students’ learning process. Further research in this field should focus on other individual variables such as age, gender and background.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the issue of unreliability in Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro deploying the rhetorical approach to narratives - which conceives of narratives as a purposive communicative act - and a range of signifiers and signifieds as defined by Wayne C. Booth, James Phelan and Peter J. Rabinowitz. By contrasting two possible readings of this book, i.e. its common reading as a dystopian novel vs the author’s recommendation of reading it as an allegorical novel, one has the possibility to nuance the issue of reliability.

One of the most frequent motivations for entering the teaching profession is the desire to assist students in succeeding in school and life (Heinz, 2015). But it can be challenging to design learning environments that motivate and keep students motivated. Students may start to doubt their skills and talents when they fail or encounter learning difficulties. Students sometimes see such academic losses as a sign that they are not “good enough” for specific subjects. A growth mindset is an effective technique that significantly impacts students’ performance. Teachers can assist students in developing the skills they need to overcome obstacles and succeed by fostering a growth mindset in the classroom. This article highlights the importance of a growth mindset for academic performance and gives examples of how teachers can encourage this mindset in their students. The present paper also encompasses a Dweck’s adapted questionnaire addressed to first, second and third-year students from the Pedagogy of Primary and Preschool Education study program within the ‘Petru Maior’ Faculty of Sciences and Letters, George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Targu Mures, which highpoints students’ opinions regarding the advantages of having a growth mindset and the difficulties they have to overcome to achieve their goals. The paper also includes tactics teachers can employ to encourage a growth mindset in their students and students’ opinions regarding adopting a growth mindset.

After leaving the Jewish fair of Sulita, Ion Pribeagu, the author of the lyrics of a famous song, Zaraza, became known throughout Romania, and not only, for his humor, satirical verve, inspiring portraits, unexpected forms of intertextuality. Signing under different pseudonyms, such as Ion Pribeagu, he wrote about families, characters, gastronomy, world and its habits, with sparks of comic genius. Living more in Bucharest, where he had become a kind of living legend, emigrating and dying in Tel Aviv, Ion Pribeagu, through everything he wrote, conceived his own fair, something between Sulita and Bucharest, where Romanians and Jews have cohabited at will.

In the short stories of Mulk Raj Anand, the character’s psyche is revealed to the readers. Anand focuses on the psyche of a character and relatively develops the character’s outer world. Mulk Raj Anand was born and brought up in and around the British Camps in India as his father was an administrator in the Indian Army, which was a transferable job. These experiences of his childhood, of moving around, of meeting new people, of adjusting, etc, gave him an introduction of the varied behavior of human and an insight in the human mind. The article focuses on cultural interaction from a historical, social, religious, and economic point of view in A Passage to India, book, and film. Can an Englishman and an Indian be friends? Two conflicting cultures, which, through the lens of a holistic approach, will be observed through elements of ethnology, ethnocentrism, human thinking, and behavior. The conclusion of the article will highlight the fact that, despite apparent cultural reconciliation, the characters, both British and Indian, are not ready yet to eradicate the racial tensions and prejudices inherent in both cultures, and hence, are incapable of cultural and human cooperation in a productive way.

The work of Lorand Gaspar, a contemporary author of French expression, born in TarguMures, stands out for a poetic approach to existence, in which the presentation of ideas interferes with body consciousness, culture and nature. The relationships established between them retrace certain poetic, but also ethical and existential principles. The notion of non-belonging is fundamental to Gaspar's poetics. He projected himself as a nomad, subjected to both geographical and spiritual migration, something that became his main source of revitalization and an essential identity component. Besides, poetry remained for Gaspar the only country of belonging, and the road towards it ensured the coherence of the entire journey.

Cosmetics advertising provides a rich field of analysis in terms of pragma-linguistic and multimodal communication, as well as different degrees of persuasion and language creativity. This paper is a case study of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics through the multimodal discourse analysis framework. It employs different deconstruction tools as research variables: the AIDA persuasion pattern (attention, interest, desire, action) in ad constituents, deixis, disjunctive grammar, tropes, and elements of visual semiotics. The analysis will provide insight for master students who intend to develop a career in public relations as copywriters, helping them to understand the persuasion attainment and the potential of strategies and techniques used in advertising communication.

Writing for academic purposes should be a compulsory topic in any academic institutions that usually provide students with courses and modules devoted to the acquisition of Academic Writing Skills. Teaching about Academic Writing is not an easy task as it calls for some prerequisites. Among these we could mention a good command of the English language. Academic environments nowadays use the English language as the lingua franca, that is the medium to communicate. That would require, besides the above-mentioned excellent command of the English language, a broad perspective on how knowledge and information are shared in international academic contexts. Being culturally aware, a researcher would try to get their message across in such a way that their written texts would be as objective as possible, being emptied of any cultural features (that have in view the researcher’s cultural background). Nonetheless, the purpose of this paper is to show how academic writing may be regarded as another form of communication, this approach seeming to be a more effective one for students’ understanding of the problem. Writing is a complex process that requires special training. Looking at this problem from this perspective may actually make it easier for students to understand the basic principles of academic writing and, at the same time to realize that, by the end of the learning process they may become better communicators. Mastering good academic writing skills definitely shapes the way in which communicate in a beneficial way. Academic writing is about being able to share knowledge and information in a concise, logical way, being always aware of the progression of the argument and being able to adapt to any environment or audience.

The detection and the application of principles of other branches of science and art has been influential in reforming and forming new ideas and interpretations in other areas of science. This article has dealt with the detection and justification of the principles of chaos theory in the plays of postmodern dramatists. The postmodern absurd theatre can be closely justified at the shadow of the principles of chaos theory mainly regarding the themes afflicting humanity at postmodern era. The article makes it clear how the themes can best be justified within the frameworks of chaos theory and how these chaotic themes can lead to tranquilized condition of human being via the framework of dramatic art. This has enabled the unseen in-tumult layers of human mind regarding his condition and being emerged, made tangible, and get soothed in its condition, a phenomenon whose illustration would be impossible with no other way round. Finally, the paper presents the finding that the chaotic state of mind and being of postmodern man based on the chaotic state of the postmodernism era would capture the significance and meaning built based on his own findings and understanding.
