<abstract xml:lang="en"><title style='display:none'>Thermal characterisation of Lake Morskie Oko water in 2007 based on measurements by a gradient thermal probe</title>The study was undertaken to illustrate a wide range of application of a gradient thermal probe in thermal characterisation of water reservoirs on the example of Lake Morskie Oko whose water temperature has been measured since 2006. For analysis, the data collected in 2007 were chosen because of the least missing data; in this year only the data from 13 days were not recorded. The data permitted analysis of changes in daily mean temperatures of water at particular depths, with the daily means calculated as arithmetic means from 144 measurements made at every 10 minutes. The daily amplitudes of temperatures at particular depths and mean daily amplitudes for particular months were determined, which permitted an assessment of the scale of the temperature amplitude damping with increasing depth. High frequency of temperature reading permitted detection of short-duration anomalies, taking place e.g. over a time span of 10 minutes, or their vertical extent. It has been established that measurement at 2 a.m. is the optimum for determination of the annual mean temperature. The time moments at which the minimum and maximum temperatures are recorded within a day at the surface were identified. Different variants of temporary jump changes in the surface water temperature within the day were analysed. The dynamics of temperature changes from the surface to the bottom of the lake was discussed.</abstract>

Open Access Statement The journal is an Open Access journal that allows a free unlimited access to all its contents without any restrictions upon publication to all users. <a href="https://sciendo-parsed-data-feed.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/LIMRE/Open_Access_License.pdf">Open Access License</a> Article Processing Charge (APC) The journal does not have article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges. General Information Limnological Review (abbr.Limnol.Rev.) is a scientific journal published by the Polish Limnological Society. The journal publishes original research papers, short communications and review articles. Limnological Review is devoted, but not limited to, the study of inland, both natural and manmade, water bodies. The scope of the journal covers all aspects of freshwater environment studies, from lakes and rivers to wetlands, from physical and chemical to biological limnology. The journal is peer-reviewed and is published quarterly in paper and electronic versions. The language of the journal is English. All manuscripts are reviewed by Editors and independent experts. Based on the referees' recommendations, the Editors make a decision on whether to accept or to reject a contribution. Manuscript Submission Manuscripts delivered for publication in Limnological Review should contain absolutely original works. This condition does not apply to review articles. The corresponding author must verify that the manuscript has not been previously reported or published, and is not under consideration elsewhere while under review by the Limnol.Rev. If the manuscript is a revised version of the manuscript previously rejected by Limnological Review the author(s) must inform the Editor about the previous submission in the cover letter and explain the changes that have been made. Submission of a manuscript implies that it has been read and approved by all co-authors and authors assigned exclusive copyrights to the Polish Limnological Society if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. The manuscripts should be correctly written in a clear, easy to understand manner,and they should contain all essential features of a complete scientific paper (see detailed instructions for authors). Attention to detail of the language will avoid severe misunderstandings which might lead to a rejection of the paper, so authors who are not native-speakers of English can be provided with help in rewriting their contribution in correct English. One paper copy of the manuscript and its electronic version along with an attached cover letter and Submission Form should be delivered directly to the Editorial Office (address information below). Electronic and printed versions must be identical. Delivering of the manuscripts only in electronic format, submitted via email to the Editorial Office (<a href="mailto:geodb@univ.gda.pl">geodb@univ.gda.pl</a>), is also allowed. The cover letter should contain all important details about the submission such as: submitter’s full name, the full and short title of the article, full list of authors, status of the article (whether it is a new submission or a corrected version), contact address, number of attached files, details of any previous or concurrent submission, recommendations of reviewers for the Editor, as well as any other relevant information. Bażyńskiego 4 p. 321B 80-952 Gdańsk Poland Peer Review Process The Editors of Limnological Review seek advice from experts in the appropriate discipline of the aquatic sciences. All research papers and review articles are judged by two independent reviewers (Double-blind peer review). In the case of serious differences between these opinions, further reviewers may be asked for advice. Authors may propose persons competent to review their manuscript. However, this will be treated only as a suggestion, and the final selection of the reviewers is exclusively the Editor's decision. A submission may be declined by the Managing Editor without review, if deemed inappropriate for reasons other than scientific merit. Please note, that manuscripts that do not conform to the general criteria for publication will be returned immediately without detailed review. Revised Manuscript Submission When revision of a manuscript is requisited, authors should return the revised version of their manuscript within 2 months. If this deadline is not met, and no arrangements for completion have been made with the Managing Editor, the manuscript will be rejected and treated as a new one. If the revision is complete the Editor-in-Chief makes an ultimate decision about acceptance of the manuscript. Next, the manuscript is sent to the language proofreading, and only printer’s errors can be corrected and references updated after this stage. On-line Service All manuscripts accepted for publication will be posted on-line in the Versita platform as soon as they are ready for publication. Once a manuscript appears on the Web site it is considered as published. Protection policy against plagiarism, ghostwriting and guest authorship The Editors of Limnological Review consider the plagiarism, ghostwriting and guest autorship as indication of scientific misconduct and dishonesty. In order to prevent such practices the authors of manuscripts are obliged to: 1. Disclose contribution of each author to preparation of a manuscript (with a list of their affiliations) in detail, provide information on who is the author of concept, premises, methods, etc. used in their paper. Main responsibility to disclose full information remains on author submitting manuscript; 2. Disclose information on sources of financing of their research projects and financial contributions of research institutions or scientific associations. The authors of research papers are obliged to disclose financial obligations between them and the company whose product is described in the manuscript or a rival company. This information will remain confidential and will not affect the decision to publish the manuscript. All detected and documented cases of scientific misconduct will be reported to the adequate institutions (employers, scientific societies, scientific editors associations, etc.). Based on the decision of the reviewers and the thematic editors, the authors involved in dishonest scientific practices will be excluded from the future possibility of publication in Limnological Review. Useful definitions: Ghostwriting is a situation where a person contributes significantly to a publication and is not disclosed as one of the authors or named in the acknowledgments. Guest authorship (honorary authorship) is a situation where an author's contribution is insignificant or non existent and he is still listed as co-author of a publication. Plagiarism is the situation where significant parts of another author's publication are presented as one own's original work. Self-plagiarism is also considered as a wrong scientific practice, and means the reuse of significant (more than 10%), identical, or nearly identical portions of one's own work without acknowledging that one is doing so or without citing the original work. When scientific work already published in another language is offered for publication, the original publication should be mentioned.

<DIV align=left> Limnological Review (LR) is a quarterly published by the Polish Limnological Society and provides an open, extensive, and important forum for the publication of original, peer-reviewed contributions in various disciplines of aquatic science. Several categories of contributions are published in the journal including research and review papers, reports and announcements. LR is devoted, but not limited, to the study of inland, both natural and manmade, water bodies. The goal of the journal is to keep records of the state-of-the-art studies of aquatic ecosystems and to promote limnology. The scope of the journal covers all aspects of freshwater environment studies, from lakes and rivers to wetlands, from physical and chemical to biological limnology.
