Corrosive degradation of construction materials for marine structures is a natural phenomenon. The extent of deterioration in mechanical properties of materials used in ship construction is directly linked to the chemical makeup of the material as well as the prevailing environmental conditions (e.g. salinity, physical stress) an the applied anti-corrosive coating. The paper presents results of research into stress corrosion of highly durable aluminum alloys. In order to increase the safety while using the above mentioned components, logging of corrosive potential has been introduced in the case of selected (corrosion-prone) number of surfaces of the quarter-section in relation the model 620 ship, made of 7020 alloy, so that the hazard of corrosive breach can be monitored.

One of the most important concepts concerning the safety of navigation is the ship domain. The maritime domain is one of the oldest domains, which preceded the ones used in aviation, railway industry, chemical industry and medical. Through the concept of a ship domain is to be understood a certain area around the vessel, which the navigator wants to keep free of other fixed and moving objects. Navigational situation can be considered safe as long as no other ship neither any navigational obstacle would not exceed the area. In order to build and develop methods to assess the safety of the navigation, a ship probabilistic domains for three types of vessel encounter situations were determined based on the AIS traffic monitoring data. The aim of the paper is to present a method to identify navigational incidents on the basis of a probabilistic domain, which can be used to assess the safety of navigation and discovery places potentially dangerous for navigation in the selected areas of the Baltic Sea.

An important role among protective means play the elements of control systems performing safety functions. When the validation process of a safety performance level(PL) achieved by those systems is conducted properly one can draw the conclusion that any defect appearing in those systems would not cause the loss of safety functions. The paper presents formalized validation of the PL procedures for different categories and PL’s for introducing into the computer program which makes more efficient all the operations involved into the validation and documentation processes of safety performance level achieved by machine control systems.

The article consist of study on concept of Network Obstacle (firewall, FW) using PLD-Linux platform and available tools, implementation selected mechanism of security, also analysis the effectiveness of prepared Network Obstacle. Study on concept of Network Obstacle is based on Screened Subnet architecture. Testing effectiveness of network Obstacle was found in two fundamental parts. In the first part was examining the security of network obstacle, testing the resistance attempts of scanning port and the most common attacks. The second part of the research meant to show the influence of the Network Obstacle on time and delay of the realization of transaction for HTTP movement depending on level of the security and movement intensity generated by internal network users. Testing the effectiveness of FW was verify by testing the resistance in an attempt of scanning ports and attacks refusal of service (ICMP, SYN Flood), providing base of dispersed attacks DDoS. This part of the research had one aim, to show the influence FW on time and on delay of the realization the transaction for motion HTTP, depending on the security level and intensity of movement generated by the users of the internal network.

Verification of Diagnostic Thresholds with Elimination of Ambient Factors / Weryfikacja Progów Diagnostycznych z Eliminacją Otoczenia

Measurements of signals received from ambient environment is a difficult task for technical diagnostics and becomes even infeasible in a series of cases. It is why the issues related to elimination of ambient factors from the identification process of diagnostic thresholds are truly justified. The method for elimination of environment impact is disclosed in this paper and consists in displacement of a specific set of measured diagnostic parameters (the initial set) in relation to the subsequent set of diagnostic parameters (the target set). Then the square of amplitude gain and the phase shift are calculated for these two mutually shifted data sets, which makes it possible to evaluate “cohesion” density of results obtained for diagnostic signals and thus their suitability for calculation of diagnostic thresholds. The method is characterized by the peculiarity that it takes account for ambient “environment” with no need to measure its parameters [6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14].

Friction brake temperature due to its influence on brakes’ operation is subject to many test and studies. Measurements methods of this important brake parameter are being continuously developed. In order to withstand difficulty in temperature evaluation in full brake system as well as in isolated friction pair is use of contactless measurement methods. Currently, the most widespread contactless testing method of the thermal effects is to measure infrared emission by pyrometers or thermographic (infrared) cameras. Thermal imaging method wasn’t used so far during aviation brake materials usefulness evaluation and certification testing performed in Instytut Lotnictwa Landing Gear Laboratory. In this paper, author described performed friction materials tests which were recorded with thermal imaging camera as well as evaluated usefulness of the method by comparing its accuracy to thermocouple measurement.

In the paper results of studies that aim was to develop a diagnostic method for high-speed marine diesel engines are presented. Polish Navy is operating significant number of engines of this type also on board of submarines. Engines of this type do not have indicator valves, which complicates the assessment of combustion process and their technical condition. Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia for years has been developing methods of diagnosing marine internal combustion engines. In recent years, a diagnostic method for high-speed marine diesel engines based on the analysis of envelope of vibration accelerations generated by the valve gear mechanism and fuel system has been developed. Some tests results made on Mercedes-Maybach MB820 engines used on Kobben class submarines are presented in the paper.

At the beginning of the paper the aim of research is presented. Then the method is introduced. Next, the unmanned autonomous maritime vehicle is briefly described. The following chapter concerns a model of vehicle performance including the ballasting and motion. Some information on an integrated steering, positioning and stabilization system of the vehicle is briefly presented in the paper. Such the system enables to obtain a fully autonomous vehicle. In the final part of the paper some issues connected with the risk assessment and assessment of the vehicle safety are introduced.

Risk of danger for military vehicle crew life and health increases when explosion under vehicle appears. Consideration of this phenomenon in the aspect of soldiers safety is based on coupled analysis of soldier’s body, car seat and vehicle construction elements. As the effect of blast wave interaction the vibrations of construction and passanger body acceleration appear. In the paper the analysis of improvised explosive device (IED) detonation under the military vehicle was carried out in the aspect of soldier neck spine injury. The analysis was made with the usage of numerical methods in LS Dyna computer code and considered the changeble values of displacement and acceleration registered during detonation.

Military vehicles are exposed, among others, to mine and IED (Improvised Explosive Device) threats. Contemporary structural solutions cannot ensure their safety at maximum level. This paper presents a review of currently used structural solutions enhancing protection level against explosion. Furthermore, requirements for military vehicles safety against mine and IED threats are characterized. As well as that, sample results of energy absorbing panels examination results are shown. Instytut Techniczny Wojsk Lotniczych has for years been engaged in research and development (R&D) aimed at the determination of wear-and-tear level that particular aircraft suffer from. The paper has been intended to present an innovative measuring-and-recording system to collect information on service loads that arise in structural components of the Su-22UM3K aircraft. Research work into loads in some selected structural components of the Su-22UM3K has been carried out with the KAM-500 measuring system applied. Modular design has been used to develop the system. This, in turn, allows of changes in the system’s configuration, according to what a measuring task requires. The flight testing of loads has covered items of tasks included in the flying training program for the Su- 22UM3K to collect/deliver data on an actual service profile and to determine representative strain-gauge measuring channels to be utilized in further aircraft’s service.

This study deals with the problems connected with quality assurance for transport systems operation. The research was performed using data from a real transport system. The concept of a system operation quality was defined on the basis of which a schematic assessment model was developed and a random process was described to be used for its evaluation. Qualitative states of a system operation reflecting value ranges of the obtained evaluations in given times were identified in result of the experimental tests performed as part of the research. A model of a system operation efficiency evaluation was developed for the analyzed technical objects with the use of semi-Markov theory.

In a situation of increasing the supply of means of individual transport and not capable of following the development of infrastructure, an important issue is the issue of ensuring adequate levels of efficiency, safety and the competitiveness of the operation of the exploitation of public transport services. Factors affecting the safe operation pending exploitation systems of vehicles, in a differentiated way affect the level of safety provided services in smaller cities - up to 100 thousand inhabitants, with respect to the cities which are agglomerations of more complex structure, which are cities the number to 500 thousand inhabitants. This paper attempts to analyze and evaluate the safety of the operation of the public transport services exploitation, on the basis of the same assessment criteria, comparing two different sized urban areas.

The paper presents a numerical analysis of the impact of working propellers on the aerodynamics of the aircraft. Analysis was made on the example of a twin-engined, unmanned aircraft with electric drive during the low altitude flight. Three configurations were studied and compared: the plane without propellers, the plane with pusher propellers and the plane with tractor propellers. For each configuration distributions of aerodynamic coefficients along the span of the wing and their global values for the entire aircraft were estimated. Calculations were performed using the Fluent solver with implementation of a simplified model of propeller based on the Blade Element Theory. Results of the analysis indicate a slight advantage of the tractor propellers configuration.

The paper presents selected results of work at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in the scope of testing of the SSP-FK fire suppression system used on many types of military aircraft operating in the Polish Armed Forces. For the purpose of determining conditions for false fire alarms, SSP-FK simulation models have been developed. The study was carried out on simulation models in Matlab-Simulink and Circuit-Maker packages. Results of this work have been used for diagnosis of the SSP-FK system during a test of real cases of false activation of these devices.

The important and crucial issue concerning water supply functioning in terms of conducting failure analysis were discussed. In the work failure indicators, water losses and availability of water services, that define standards of quality water services and their values were determined based on data from exploitation. In order to understand the current situation of water supply infrastructure it is necessary to perform periodic analyzes of water supply network failure, which was proposed in this paper. A detailed analysis of the failure and the water loss of the water supply network should be the main element of the urban management water supply network, particularly in the strategic plans for its modernization.

The aim of this paper is to present the novel approach to risk assessment in combination with failure and consequence analysis, depending on two parameters defined by the fuzzy functions: the repair time of water pipe and the cost of water pipe repair, what allow to determine particular risk levels. The presented methodology can be used to describe the functioning of the public water supply in terms of its renewal.

This publication discusses the issues of safety enhancing technological innovations in mining industry, in the context of company operation risk. Different types of risks characteristic of this sector have been indicated, and particularly the idea to perceive the activities in safety enhancing area in aggragate mining as Corporate Social Responsibility activities and to use them to create corporate value was put forth. The base for the discussion was the studies on a new gasifier used to sunder rock blocks. There are various appliances used for sundering layers of rock blocks worldwide, operating with primary expolosives. The alternative for these devices are ones generating energy as the result of deflagration of pyrotechnic compositions, producing vast amounts of gases characterized of high temperature and pressure and resulting in sundering layers of rock block from the whole of the block, without causing microcracks or crevices neither in the whole of the block nor in the sundered layer.

Corrosive degradation of construction materials for marine structures is a natural phenomenon. The extent of deterioration in mechanical properties of materials used in ship construction is directly linked to the chemical makeup of the material as well as the prevailing environmental conditions (e.g. salinity, physical stress) an the applied anti-corrosive coating. The paper presents results of research into stress corrosion of highly durable aluminum alloys. In order to increase the safety while using the above mentioned components, logging of corrosive potential has been introduced in the case of selected (corrosion-prone) number of surfaces of the quarter-section in relation the model 620 ship, made of 7020 alloy, so that the hazard of corrosive breach can be monitored.

One of the most important concepts concerning the safety of navigation is the ship domain. The maritime domain is one of the oldest domains, which preceded the ones used in aviation, railway industry, chemical industry and medical. Through the concept of a ship domain is to be understood a certain area around the vessel, which the navigator wants to keep free of other fixed and moving objects. Navigational situation can be considered safe as long as no other ship neither any navigational obstacle would not exceed the area. In order to build and develop methods to assess the safety of the navigation, a ship probabilistic domains for three types of vessel encounter situations were determined based on the AIS traffic monitoring data. The aim of the paper is to present a method to identify navigational incidents on the basis of a probabilistic domain, which can be used to assess the safety of navigation and discovery places potentially dangerous for navigation in the selected areas of the Baltic Sea.

An important role among protective means play the elements of control systems performing safety functions. When the validation process of a safety performance level(PL) achieved by those systems is conducted properly one can draw the conclusion that any defect appearing in those systems would not cause the loss of safety functions. The paper presents formalized validation of the PL procedures for different categories and PL’s for introducing into the computer program which makes more efficient all the operations involved into the validation and documentation processes of safety performance level achieved by machine control systems.

The article consist of study on concept of Network Obstacle (firewall, FW) using PLD-Linux platform and available tools, implementation selected mechanism of security, also analysis the effectiveness of prepared Network Obstacle. Study on concept of Network Obstacle is based on Screened Subnet architecture. Testing effectiveness of network Obstacle was found in two fundamental parts. In the first part was examining the security of network obstacle, testing the resistance attempts of scanning port and the most common attacks. The second part of the research meant to show the influence of the Network Obstacle on time and delay of the realization of transaction for HTTP movement depending on level of the security and movement intensity generated by internal network users. Testing the effectiveness of FW was verify by testing the resistance in an attempt of scanning ports and attacks refusal of service (ICMP, SYN Flood), providing base of dispersed attacks DDoS. This part of the research had one aim, to show the influence FW on time and on delay of the realization the transaction for motion HTTP, depending on the security level and intensity of movement generated by the users of the internal network.

Measurements of signals received from ambient environment is a difficult task for technical diagnostics and becomes even infeasible in a series of cases. It is why the issues related to elimination of ambient factors from the identification process of diagnostic thresholds are truly justified. The method for elimination of environment impact is disclosed in this paper and consists in displacement of a specific set of measured diagnostic parameters (the initial set) in relation to the subsequent set of diagnostic parameters (the target set). Then the square of amplitude gain and the phase shift are calculated for these two mutually shifted data sets, which makes it possible to evaluate “cohesion” density of results obtained for diagnostic signals and thus their suitability for calculation of diagnostic thresholds. The method is characterized by the peculiarity that it takes account for ambient “environment” with no need to measure its parameters [6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14].

Friction brake temperature due to its influence on brakes’ operation is subject to many test and studies. Measurements methods of this important brake parameter are being continuously developed. In order to withstand difficulty in temperature evaluation in full brake system as well as in isolated friction pair is use of contactless measurement methods. Currently, the most widespread contactless testing method of the thermal effects is to measure infrared emission by pyrometers or thermographic (infrared) cameras. Thermal imaging method wasn’t used so far during aviation brake materials usefulness evaluation and certification testing performed in Instytut Lotnictwa Landing Gear Laboratory. In this paper, author described performed friction materials tests which were recorded with thermal imaging camera as well as evaluated usefulness of the method by comparing its accuracy to thermocouple measurement.

In the paper results of studies that aim was to develop a diagnostic method for high-speed marine diesel engines are presented. Polish Navy is operating significant number of engines of this type also on board of submarines. Engines of this type do not have indicator valves, which complicates the assessment of combustion process and their technical condition. Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia for years has been developing methods of diagnosing marine internal combustion engines. In recent years, a diagnostic method for high-speed marine diesel engines based on the analysis of envelope of vibration accelerations generated by the valve gear mechanism and fuel system has been developed. Some tests results made on Mercedes-Maybach MB820 engines used on Kobben class submarines are presented in the paper.

At the beginning of the paper the aim of research is presented. Then the method is introduced. Next, the unmanned autonomous maritime vehicle is briefly described. The following chapter concerns a model of vehicle performance including the ballasting and motion. Some information on an integrated steering, positioning and stabilization system of the vehicle is briefly presented in the paper. Such the system enables to obtain a fully autonomous vehicle. In the final part of the paper some issues connected with the risk assessment and assessment of the vehicle safety are introduced.

Risk of danger for military vehicle crew life and health increases when explosion under vehicle appears. Consideration of this phenomenon in the aspect of soldiers safety is based on coupled analysis of soldier’s body, car seat and vehicle construction elements. As the effect of blast wave interaction the vibrations of construction and passanger body acceleration appear. In the paper the analysis of improvised explosive device (IED) detonation under the military vehicle was carried out in the aspect of soldier neck spine injury. The analysis was made with the usage of numerical methods in LS Dyna computer code and considered the changeble values of displacement and acceleration registered during detonation.

Military vehicles are exposed, among others, to mine and IED (Improvised Explosive Device) threats. Contemporary structural solutions cannot ensure their safety at maximum level. This paper presents a review of currently used structural solutions enhancing protection level against explosion. Furthermore, requirements for military vehicles safety against mine and IED threats are characterized. As well as that, sample results of energy absorbing panels examination results are shown. On this basis remarks to further development of protective structures are formulated.

Instytut Techniczny Wojsk Lotniczych has for years been engaged in research and development (R&D) aimed at the determination of wear-and-tear level that particular aircraft suffer from. The paper has been intended to present an innovative measuring-and-recording system to collect information on service loads that arise in structural components of the Su-22UM3K aircraft. Research work into loads in some selected structural components of the Su-22UM3K has been carried out with the KAM-500 measuring system applied. Modular design has been used to develop the system. This, in turn, allows of changes in the system’s configuration, according to what a measuring task requires. The flight testing of loads has covered items of tasks included in the flying training program for the Su- 22UM3K to collect/deliver data on an actual service profile and to determine representative strain-gauge measuring channels to be utilized in further aircraft’s service.

This study deals with the problems connected with quality assurance for transport systems operation. The research was performed using data from a real transport system. The concept of a system operation quality was defined on the basis of which a schematic assessment model was developed and a random process was described to be used for its evaluation. Qualitative states of a system operation reflecting value ranges of the obtained evaluations in given times were identified in result of the experimental tests performed as part of the research. A model of a system operation efficiency evaluation was developed for the analyzed technical objects with the use of semi-Markov theory.

In a situation of increasing the supply of means of individual transport and not capable of following the development of infrastructure, an important issue is the issue of ensuring adequate levels of efficiency, safety and the competitiveness of the operation of the exploitation of public transport services. Factors affecting the safe operation pending exploitation systems of vehicles, in a differentiated way affect the level of safety provided services in smaller cities - up to 100 thousand inhabitants, with respect to the cities which are agglomerations of more complex structure, which are cities the number to 500 thousand inhabitants. This paper attempts to analyze and evaluate the safety of the operation of the public transport services exploitation, on the basis of the same assessment criteria, comparing two different sized urban areas.

The paper presents a numerical analysis of the impact of working propellers on the aerodynamics of the aircraft. Analysis was made on the example of a twin-engined, unmanned aircraft with electric drive during the low altitude flight. Three configurations were studied and compared: the plane without propellers, the plane with pusher propellers and the plane with tractor propellers. For each configuration distributions of aerodynamic coefficients along the span of the wing and their global values for the entire aircraft were estimated. Calculations were performed using the Fluent solver with implementation of a simplified model of propeller based on the Blade Element Theory. Results of the analysis indicate a slight advantage of the tractor propellers configuration.

The paper presents selected results of work at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in the scope of testing of the SSP-FK fire suppression system used on many types of military aircraft operating in the Polish Armed Forces. For the purpose of determining conditions for false fire alarms, SSP-FK simulation models have been developed. The study was carried out on simulation models in Matlab-Simulink and Circuit-Maker packages. Results of this work have been used for diagnosis of the SSP-FK system during a test of real cases of false activation of these devices.

The important and crucial issue concerning water supply functioning in terms of conducting failure analysis were discussed. In the work failure indicators, water losses and availability of water services, that define standards of quality water services and their values were determined based on data from exploitation. In order to understand the current situation of water supply infrastructure it is necessary to perform periodic analyzes of water supply network failure, which was proposed in this paper. A detailed analysis of the failure and the water loss of the water supply network should be the main element of the urban management water supply network, particularly in the strategic plans for its modernization.

The aim of this paper is to present the novel approach to risk assessment in combination with failure and consequence analysis, depending on two parameters defined by the fuzzy functions: the repair time of water pipe and the cost of water pipe repair, what allow to determine particular risk levels. The presented methodology can be used to describe the functioning of the public water supply in terms of its renewal.
