A Review of Hashing based Image Copy Detection Techniques

Resumen

Abstract

Images are considered to be natural carriers of information, and a large number of images are created, exchanged and are made available online. Apart from creating new images, the availability of number of duplicate copies of images is a critical problem. Hashing based image copy detection techniques are a promising alternative to address this problem. In this approach, a hash is constructed by using a set of unique features extracted from the image for identification. This article provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art image hashing techniques. The reviewed techniques are categorized by the mechanism used and compared across a set of functional & performance parameters. The article finally highlights the current issues faced by such systems and possible future directions to motivate further research work.

3D Face Factorisation for Face Recognition Using Pattern Recognition Algorithms

Resumen

Abstract

The face is the preferable biometrics for person recognition or identification applications because person identifying by face is a human connate habit. In contrast to 2D face recognition, 3D face recognition is practically robust to illumination variance, facial cosmetics, and face pose changes. Traditional 3D face recognition methods describe shape variation across the whole face using holistic features. In spite of that, taking into account facial regions, which are unchanged within expressions, can acquire high performance 3D face recognition system. In this research, the recognition analysis is based on defining a set of coherent parts. Those parts can be considered as latent factors in the face shape space. Non-negative matrix Factorisation technique is used to segment the 3D faces to coherent regions. The best recognition performance is achieved when the vertices of 20 face regions are utilised as a feature vector for recognition task. The region-based 3D face recognition approach provides a 96.4% recognition rate in FRGCv2 dataset.

ISAR Imaging of a Rotating Asteroid Irradiated by Pulsar’s Electromagnetic Emission

Resumen

Abstract

The aim of the present study is imaging of moving objects, asteroids illuminated by continuous coherent wideband pulsar’s signals. As pulsars are located on more than thousands of light years from Earth, objects crossing pulsars’ emission beams are considered as second sources of electromagnetic waves, carrying object’s shape and velocity information that can be extracted by application pulsar emission-based inverse aperture synthesis. Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) scenario, geometry and kinematics are analytically described. Models of pulsar signals and ISAR signals secondary emitted by asteroids are developed. White Gaussian noise of high level is added to the deterministic reemitted signal in order to approach the real signal scenario. Two-Dimensional (2D) Fourier transform for image extraction is applied. Special iterative noise removing procedure is suggested for asteroid’s image enhancement. To verify mathematical model and imaging algorithms numerical experiments are carried out.

Resumen

Abstract

Predicting gender on the foundation of handwriting investigation is a very invoking research area. Handwriting analysis also has numerous applications. It is useful for forensic experts to investigate classes of writers. This prediction is executed fundamentally by two steps: feature extraction and classification. As a whole, prediction solely depends upon the feature extraction. Distinct and most varied features make the classification accurate. This paper describes the problem comprehensively along with its foundation. It presents a survey of the available methods to solve the discussed problem. A comparative analysis of the discussed methods of feature extraction and classification along with the available databases is also presented in this paper.

Fuzzy Supervised Multi-Period Time Series Forecasting

Resumen

Abstract

The goal of this paper is to propose a new method for fuzzy forecasting of time series with supervised learning and k-order fuzzy relationships. In the training phase based on k previous historical periods, a multidimensional matrix of fuzzy dependencies is constructed. During the test stage, the fitted fuzzy model is run for validating the observations and each output value is predicted by using a fuzzy input vector of k previous intervals. The proposed algorithm is verified by a benchmark dataset for fuzzy time series forecasting. The results obtained are similar or better than those of other fuzzy time series prediction methods. Comparative analysis shows the high potential of the new algorithm as an alternative to fuzzy prediction and reveals some opportunities for its further improvement.

Optimisation of System Dynamics Models Using a Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm with Fuzzy Control

Resumen

Abstract

This paper presents a new real-coded genetic algorithm with Fuzzy control for the Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (F-RCGA) aggregated with System Dynamics models (SD-models). The main feature of the genetic algorithm presented herein is the application of fuzzy control to its parameters, such as the probability of a mutation, type of crossover operator, size of the parent population, etc. The control rules for the Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) were suggested based on the estimation of the values of the performance metrics, such as rate of convergence, processing time and remoteness from a potential extremum. Results of optimisation experiments demonstrate the greater time-efficiency of F-RCGA in comparison with other RCGAs, as well as the Monte-Carlo method. F-RCGA was validated by using well-known test instances and applied for the optimisation of characteristics of some system dynamics models.

Genetic Algorithms vs. Knowledge-Based Control of PHB Production

Resumen

Abstract

The paper proposes an approach using Genetic Algorithm (GA) for development of optimal time profiles of key control variable of Poly-HydroxyButyrate (PHB) production process. Previous work on modeling and simulation of PHB process showed that it is a highly nonlinear process that needs special controllers based on human experience, as such fuzzy logic controller proved to be a good choice. Fuzzy controllers are not totally replaced, due to the specific process knowledge that they contain. The achieved results are compared with previously proposed knowledge-based approach to the same optimal control task.

Performance Analysis and Optimization Techniques for Oracle Relational Databases

Resumen

Abstract

Databases provide an efficient way to store, retrieve and analyze data. Oracle relational database is one of the most popular database management systems that is widely used in a different variety of industries and businesses. Therefore, it is important to guarantee that the database access and data manipulation is optimized for reducing database system response time. This paper intends to analyze the performance and the main optimization techniques (Forall, Returning, and Bulk Collect) that can be adopted for Oracle Relational Databases. The results have shown that the adoption of Forall and Bulk Collect approaches bring significant benefits in terms of execution time. Furthermore, the growth rate of the average execution time is lower for Bulk Collect than Forall. However, adoption of Returning approach doesn’t bring significant statistical benefits.

An Approach to Evaluation of Clinically Healthy People by Preventive Cardio Control

Abstract

This article presents the main algorithms and the methodology for the development of the evaluation criteria and the results of the work of the program environment developed for evaluation and analysis of the electrocardiographic signals in the preventive control of clinically healthy people after emotional or physical stress for the purpose of diagnosing of current disorders in the cardiac activity. The presented structure combines a new approach to building an electronic system for assessing individual medical information from the real life of healthy people and a specific method for analyzing the results. The purpose of preventive control is to preserve human health through early and timely assessment of its current health status.

Optimized Focused Web Crawler with Natural Language Processing Based Relevance Measure in Bioinformatics Web Sources

Abstract

In the fast growing of digital technologies, crawlers and search engines face unpredictable challenges. Focused web-crawlers are essential for mining the boundless data available on the internet. Web-Crawlers face indeterminate latency problem due to differences in their response time. The proposed work attempts to optimize the designing and implementation of Focused Web-Crawlers using Master-Slave architecture for Bioinformatics web sources. Focused Crawlers ideally should crawl only relevant pages, but the relevance of the page can only be estimated after crawling the genomics pages. A solution for predicting the page relevance, which is based on Natural Language Processing, is proposed in the paper. The frequency of the keywords on the top ranked sentences of the page determines the relevance of the pages within genomics sources. The proposed solution uses a TextRank algorithm to rank the sentences, as well as ensuring the correct classification of Bioinformatics web page. Finally, the model is validated by being compared with a breadth first search web-crawler. The comparison shows significant reduction in run time for the same harvest rate.
