The Bulletin of the History of Education is one of the most important Polish academic journals in this field of research. It has been on the publishing market since 1995. It is an organ of the Main Board of the Society for the History of Education and at the same time it is published by the renowned publishing house Wydawnictwo PTPN in cooperation with the Faculty of Educational Studies of the Adam Mickiewicz University. According to the editorial board of the publishing house, the journal complies with all applicable standards, including the international composition of the editorial board, language editors, as well as articles being subject to a two-stage review procedure (including the double-peer view). The papers all have abstracts in English and a DOI, and among the authors, there are also persons representing foreign science centres.
From 2013, the “Bulletin” has been published as a semi-annual journal, instead of a yearly publication. It has a reputation that currently extends beyond the borders of Poland. It is also the only Polish academic journal publishing each year an up-to-date bibliography of its scientific discipline.
The authors of the published articles include researchers and PhD students representing leading academic centres in Poland, as well as foreign scholars, PhDs, postdoctoral graduates and professors. Papers are written by historians, historians of education, but also researchers from other fields of humanities and social sciences.
The topics of the published articles are very broad, both in a chronological sense – from antiquity to modern times – and geographically: from civilizations of ancient Egypt and the Middle East, to Europe and Poland, as well as in the field of issues and approaches (including the methodology, source, historiographic or statistical ones). The list of issues is dominated by the history of upbringing and education, as well as the history of various types of educational institutions. Several papers can be described as interdisciplinary studies on the border of humanities and social sciences.
We publish articles, materials, reviews, as well as short texts in part: “From historical calendar” and “Presentations”.
Articles should present original scholarship of the highest quality. Articles are considered for publication on the assumption that they are not being considered for publication by another journal.
Manuscripts should be written in a clear, concise and direct style. Where contributions are judged as acceptable for publication on the basis of content, the Editor reserves the right to modify the text to eliminate ambiguity and repetition to the benefit of reader. If extensive alterations are required, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision. The current average decision time for article submissions is three months.
