The new M&amp;S ecosystem will help to project and expand the ways of using M&amp;S capabilities for achieving interoperability between participating simulation systems and ensuring credibility of results. This paper presents, on one hand, the development phases of MSaaS, the benefits and steps that have to be done in the future for its implementation at NATO level, and on the other hand, it makes an extrapolation between business continuity concept and MSaaS concept in terms of ensuring the military education and training process continuity when a crisis situation occurs.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Study on the Students’ Aptitude and Openness for the use of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Technologies in Education and Instruction
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>This paper is designed to quantitatively measure the level of aptitude and availability of the students from the “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy in Sibiu for the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies as teaching tools in the process of education and instruction. The paper is a first stage of a broader research topic, the results of which will be addressed to both teachers and researchers, as well as students and other categories of trainees. The introductory part of the paper analyses the importance of VR and AR technologies as learning environments for the military education system in particular and the advantages of using them for the cadets’ combat training. Also, the main characteristics of the three types of reality, environmental, virtual and augmented, are highlighted, which allow a better understanding of the structure and operation of AR and VR. The research methodology was then developed, establishing a survey by applying a questionnaire on a sample of 300 students from the academy and then processing and interpreting the results obtained. The conclusions of the paper show the general predisposition of students to understand and use the two technologies both as tools of learning in didactic teaching and as instruments of improving the skills of fighters in modelling and simulating military actions.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00UAVs Support to Naval Operations
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>The paper proposes an analysis of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) features that enable them to support naval operations in general, but the focus drawn to the Black Sea basin peculiarities in particular. But what if the things get so much complicated so that only a minuscule detail becomes the key into telling if that piece of ordnance pertains to a specific category of arms, more precisely if it fits into a distinguished subcategory of armament. At the moment, there are indefinitely many ways of structuring firearms into certain categories, but the methods are vague and imprecise when it comes to types that are strongly related or similar. Thus, combining history records and the official texts of various institutions ensue a more complex and plausible method of firearms classification and terminology registering alike.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Aspects Regarding the Design, Practical Realization and Implementation of a Functional Prototype of Wheeled Minirobot for Engineering Reconnaissance
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>For this scientific paper, a study was carried out on communication railways in order to identify potential threats that could hinder the achievement of the objectives of a national or international mission and the modalities to counter the respective threats by using a remote-controlled robotic technological product or operating in autonomous mode [1]. The paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter presents the engineering reconnaissance syntagm, its importance in the military field and the importance of implementing robotic technologies in such actions. In the second chapter deals with the actual making of the prototype, taking into account the established hypotheses and operational objectives. The third chapter describes the real field simulation of the designed and constructed prototype to confirm its usefulness on the battlefield and to convince as many military structures as possible to implement/integrate it with the troops and the fourth chapter describes the conclusions and proposal.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00The Influence of the Weight Function on the Results Accuracy in Structural Analysis by EFG Method
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>The use of mesh free methods, including the EFG method, raises a number of user issues. For the best possible result, the user must choose both the weight function and a series of parameters of the method used. This paper presents a part of the research undertaken by the authors to substantiate, on the basis of numerical experiments, some conclusions that will lead the user as quickly as possible to a more accurate result, which can be validated by analytical results and often by experiment. The numerical experiments performed by the authors are based on the use of their own program, made in Matlab, which allowed the use of many weighting functions, in different conditions established by choosing several values of the internodal distance and the size of the support domain. The numerical experiment is performed on a simple structure, widely used in the technical literature under the name Timoshenko beam, for which there are analytical (exact) solutions for both the displacements and stresses. The obtained results are presented in graphical and tabular form, with the highlighting of the errors compared to the exact solution. The final conclusions provide valuable information for practical work with the EFG method, which are also valid for the use of other meshless methods.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00The Existing Technologies on Anti-Drone Systems
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>The paper presents the technologies currently available on the market in the field of anti-drone systems (C-RPAS -Counter Remotely Piloted Aircraft System). These include technologies with the help of radar, audio interception systems or via infrared and electro-optical devices, which are limited in remote sensing. The purpose of this paper was to highlight the multitude of factors that can influence the main mission of C-RPAS systems, the detection. Without detection the other features of a C-RPAS system could not be applied. I used specialized documents and studies, but also comparative analysis as research methods. The results of the study confirmed to me the hypothesis that anti-drone systems use in combination, one or more of the technologies (to detect, to recognize, to identify, to locate, to block, to capture or to destroy the drone). The first four (the detection, the recognition, the identification, the localization) are in the basic configuration for any C-RPAS system. In the future, there will be a challenge (for the producers of C-RPAS systems), the capture of the RPAS, especially the military ones. It is also important to prepare the operators / beneficiaries for such systems. They can influence the effectiveness of drone combat missions.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Using the Primary Energetic Resources or Electrical Energy as a Possible Energetical Tool or Pressure Tool
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>In increasing occurrence for the cases of energetic collapse around worldwide, manifested by the lack of finite primary energetic resources (oil, gas, coal and uranium) or electricity to the final consumers, and even the desiring for the world’s major energy powers in owning and controlling, the entire chain of global energy in order to use primary energetic resources or electricity as a possible energetic tool or pressure tool in the context of blackmail and profitability, makes this thesis of a great importance and relevance. By the lack of supplying the primary energy or electricity to final consumers leads to the crises that cause societal disproportions causing extreme damage to the safety of citizens, industry, the national economy and thus national security, because all areas of a state economy depend on primary energetic resources or electricity. In this context, the energy security of a state becomes an important pillar of national, regional and international security, bringing safety, stability and well-being to the final consumers for electricity usage.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00E-Learning Strategies to Improve the Students’ Engagement
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>With the right approach and strong enough motivation, any teacher can make attractive learning be a modern and rewarding learning environment that encourages, engages and motivates students to achieve long-term learning success. The use of detergents in the process of R.B.C. decontamination led to in-depth analyzes of the absorbent properties of organic products. These products have the ability to partially or completely remove detergents from wastewater resulting from decontamination, thus reducing pollution by environmental factors. The present paper aimed at the comparative analysis of the absorbent properties of a power plant ash and diatomite ore. Also, some experiments were performed on the biodegradability of detergents considered in the study and the interpolation of data analyzed by spline functions.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Innovation-Centered Society: from the First Wave to the Smart Society
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>Ideas really matter, as they decisively influence people thoughts, creeds and behaviours. Among these, the tomorrow’s world feature is a current dominant concern. Alvin Toffler’s perspective of the three major disruptive waves colliding mankind’s history is still revealing. Also, Thomas Friedman’s intuitive vision of an interconnected world becoming flat, relates to circumstances in which any nation could potentially challenge another one, on an equal basis, within the global competitive playing field. Recently, the concept of a future Smart Society gains ground, and innovation plays an essential role in it, as it possesses the potential not only to flatten the world, but also to expand it, in terms of enlarging human knowledge perspectives. Consequently, the future world society should be better named Innovation-Centered Society rather than Smart Society. Following the Toffler’s society evolution pattern, the core element of the future should be innovation, as this is the common denominator of the disruptive technologies progress, and has the power to create an entire supporting ecosystem.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Factors Influencing the Corrosion of Infantry Weapons’ Barrels
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>The condition of the inner surface of the barrels greatly influences the stability of the bullet and the accuracy of firing with infantry weapons. Therefore, it is of particular importance to keep the inside of the barrels in perfect condition and to protect them against corrosion.</p> <p>For this reason, the article aims to highlight the possible degradation of the inside of the barrels in operation and the main factors influencing their corrosion, in order to counteract their effect. The whole issue is addressed both to the personnel specialized in the design and construction of infantry weapons systems and to the personnel that uses them.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Two Dimensions Simulation of a Magnetotactic Bacteria Cell Exposed to an Electromagnetic Field at 3 GHz
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>The effect of the presence of magnetite nanoparticles inside biological objects when they are exposed to microwaves has not yet been investigated completely. Microwaves magnetic hyperthermia is a field under development, and the use of biogenic magnetite is a relatively new vista. In this regard, the present approach presents a first step in a modeling-simulation process focused on the computation of the absorbed power distribution in bacteria cells containing native magnetite nanoparticles in the form of chains (magnetosomes). The presented simulations’ results refer to the simplest case of two-dimensional computation, which doesn’t take into consideration the geometric and magnetic anisotropy characteristics of the real magnetosomes.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00The Threat that is Represented by the Unauthorized Flight of the Rpas and the Anti-Drone Systems
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>The unauthorized flights of the RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) represent serious threats to the security of the aircraft with human crew on board, to the security of the troops in the theatre of operations as well as to the critical infrastructures and why not to the security of the civilian population. The purpose of the study was to identify which events have occurred recently related to RPAS and which of these represent real challenges to security and defense. Specific regulations and standards are not enough to control the RPAS phenomenon. I used specialized documents and studies, information and conclusions presented by the media, comparative analysis as research methods. Also, I highlighted the risks represented by RPAS. I have presented in chronological order some of the events that have taken place lately related to the use of RPAS, to demonstrate their wide spectrum of use. Even if several C-RPAS systems are installed (for anti-drone protection), an important area cannot be secured if you do not have enough systems capable of covering the entire restricted airspace. The development of anti-drone systems (C-RPAS) is rapidly required.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Combat UGV: The Challenge of their Implementation in Combat Units
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>This article deals with the issue of combat unmanned ground vehicles (UGV). This issue has a greater impact upon a process when two or more belt conveyers must work together in order to obtain high quality products. In this case we talk about, not only speed controlling, but of another important aspect, synchronization of belt conveyers. Present paper describes a solution designed and implemented for synchronization of two belt conveyers of different lengths. Each belt conveyer is driven by a motor. Each motor works at its own speed drive. The two conveyors are working together in a process of producing anti-slip door mats which are mainly used at inside door, decorative purpose, etc. The proposed solution is using a PLC and two variable speed drivers with different transmission ratio. This solution can be applied in processes which are divided in sub-processes that must work as a production flow.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Considerations Regarding the Quality of Military Training Programs
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>In order to provide well-prepared specialists in the military field, the Army ensures the training of its own human resources through initial training programs and then continuous training within the military system and environment. The quality of these training programs, which consume a lot of time and resources, must be evaluated as a process not only as a product, in an authentic and realistic way, according to certain relevant aspects: components of the curricular structure of the training program, quality of adult pedagogy, quality of experiential approaches in teaching and learning, and the difference between the initial and final level of the graduates’ competencies. There are a number of issues that can be discussed related to training programs evaluation, and they can be overcome by raising awareness and conceiving the evaluation explicitly for the quality improvement purpose.</p>
ARTICLE2021-07-12T00:00:00.000+00:00Analysis of Adaptation Capacity in the Context of Building Resilience to Threats– Local Level
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>Adaptability is the base in the concept of adaptation, it activates social adaptation, have an impact on susceptibility reduction and on increasing of resilience to threats in communities at the local level.
